Texas is annoying the hell out of me. No room to skate. No shooting lanes. Alot of our quality scoring chances have originated from below the hash marks. The brooks line has played a solid 1st period here. Skating and working hard for their ice.

Managing better to defeat Texas forecheck and get some speed through the neutral zone this game. Also doing a nice job on the forecheck taking away their breakout options. Grundstrom looks better tonight than he did Sunday.

The score made the game seem closer than it was. Marlies were toying with Texas at times.

The Marlies D can fly. I think Rosen makes the team next year, he looked great from the glimpses I saw last night.

Tough to say who earns that 6th/7th spot next year.
Borgman another name. Both he and Rosen are still 'raw', but it would seem to be in Rosen's best interest to have him in the AHL (atleast to start the year) in order for him to play alot more and improve his consistency. It was only 48 games, but Borgman was pretty good at not having a stretch of piss poor games. He'd be the 'safe' pick for me.

Rosen seems to have a serious case of Hedican's Disease. A condition wherein a defender is tremendously mobile and elite carrying the puck but it doesn't translate into an elite number of points. Not that such a player is useless in today's game, of course. Borgman also moves the puck pretty well and has some added muscle in his game.

IMO Borgman didn't even deserve to be sent down. Only reason he was is because of handedness as Dermott looked great and he had Rielly and Jake ahead of him as well. In terms of his actual performance until he was sent down, he was pretty steady and arguably better than all of Zaitsev, Carrick and Polak. That's a little unfair to Z since Z had a mirage of issues and also had much harder usage obviously, but Borgman was hands down better than the other two.

Yeah, I never had a lot to complain about in The Borg's game. I'm rooting for him a little because I think we need his size and physicality on the back end. It's all well and good to get back quick and move the puck up the ice, but eventually you have to be able to break up a forecheck down low. Sometimes you just have to lean on people to prevent them going where they want to go. He also shows some flashes of brilliance bringing the puck forward.

It's too bad that Borg isn't getting the experience of this playoff run.

The last part of what you said really won me over with him. I liked him but wasn't overly impressed in training camp and actually preferred Rosen at first, however Borgman proved himself to be a pretty smart defender and actually has deceptively good hands. Once he learns to get involved more offensively I can see him being a nice 2 way threat.

Absolutely. Now and again he makes an incredible rush. More than once he took it upon himself to get the zone, get the puck deep and basically start the forecheck himself, bouncing off guys and wreaking havoc.

Fuck Hainsey, sign Calvin De Haan for cheap and shift Rielly to the RS.

De Haan - Rielly
Gardiner - Zaitsev
Dermott - Hainsey

The reality is that there just aren't that many good RHD available, and the ones that are available will cost an arm and a leg. With that in mind I would rather go after De Haan who looks like he will be priced well below his production, and shift Rielly. It may reduce Rielly's overall impact, but it also likely makes the team as a whole better.

Rosen is a better skater and passer, than Borg. I know more of the same(except our D stink at passing), but that's what current NHLers excel at. He can also walk the line and get his shot through. He's my horse.

There are pros and cons to both. Rosen is a high end skater and appears to be a better, or at least more polished, puck mover. Borg is a thick piece of business and is way more snarly. He also might have more offensive potential, which he flashes here and there with a nice rush or pass.

We need a proper top four d-man to replace Polak and then I'd let Borgman and Rosen battle for the #7 spot. Connor Carrick can maybe go play in Denmark or something.

Tuned in for the third.

Rosen with a good shift. Closed the gap nicely to block the pass over to the front of the net.

What a tip by AJ into himself and the drive to the net was awesome.

Big hit on Lily, jumped right up tho. Should have maybe been interference.

Rosen with another nice play to stop the outside drive and cut the guy off.

Marincin throwing grenades around.

Rosen, pushing the play up, nice crisp passes.

Ben Smith misses the net on a 3 on 1, clean shot from the slot, fuck.

Johnsson with the missed blocked shot and a tip in front, hard for Sparks to stop that point shot. 3-2 Texas.

Rosen closing the gap nicely again on the 2 on 1 and then blocking the pass over on the third 2 on 1.

Another nice crisp pass off the boards bank pass by you know who, and cuts the player off at the bluline disrupting possession.

Scramble shift for Rosen here, but still closing the gap nicely.

The Marlies puck management was awful. They left Sparks out to dry on a number of occasions. You cant turn the puck over at your blueline as much as they did.

Interesting, normally you are the one criticizing the goalie while the others berate you for not factoring in shoddy team defense :hellyeah:

The mistakes were glaring last night, even I can't pin that game on the goalie. Though I will say that the turnover he made which lead to the second goal was a massive turning point in the game.
