Apparently he needs to impress on Babcock that he can help the team or he's going back down. It sounded like that was a one practice try out unless I missed the point.

Marincin is wasting eligibility by not playing. He should be in the minors instead of the press box

Marincin was loaned back to the Marlies I believe.

Ottawa selling off assets? Would love Stone on the team, he would be a perfect winger for Matthews and Willy.

Stone and Hoffman would be amazing, but I imagine the Senators would want Liljegren as a starting point.

Selfishly, would love Stone on the team. Might be the only time I would ever buy a namebar jersey

He's not going to set the expectations high publicly. He better get in a game though.

If they're keeping Karlsson then they're probably keeping Stone and Hoffman, no? If not, I'm interested in those three and that's it from Ottawa (assuming Chabot is a non-starter since that's the point of the tear down).

Looking at our upcoming games, they play Vancouver tomorrow, Columbus Monday and Ottawa Wednesday, then there's a bye week and they don't play again until Tuesday the 16th. If Babs wants to ease him in, it makes sense to either play him tomorrow or against Ottawa IMO. May as well put him in tomorrow and if he has a good game just let him play through until the bye week.

There have been a shit-load of rumors surrounding Hoffman, but from what I understand Stone isn't on the table.

Sounds like Babcock talking like he does about everyone. He had said in an interview earlier as Moose pointed out that they would of called him earlier but he was hurt. He mentioned a goalie too I think.

Two guys I would love to see line up with Matthews are Stone or Landeskog.

Hyman has been good this year but that top line has a Mats carrying Hoglund feel to it.

Apparently Dermott was going to get an OT shift but they didn't get to him. Sounds to me like he would play again Monday.

I think he definitely deserves another look. As Babs said in the post-game presser, it's always the 2nd, 3rd and games beyond that where you really see what you've got. But, it bodes well that he didn't seem fazed at all. We've had a few young guys come up over the past few years (Valiev, Granberg and Loov come to mind) and look alright at first but never really settle in. Corrado kind of fits that bill though he got an extended look during that first Babcock year and mostly just took more penalties than Polak for waterskiing. Dermott has better pedigree than any of those guys, though. That draft had some very good defensemen go ahead of him. If he were an inch or two taller, I bet he'd have gone in the first round. Don't really see what guys like Juulson and Larsson (hell, maybe even Chabot) had on him in terms of talent and track record. Though I think a few guys on that Erie team probably got underrated because folks figured it was just McYeezy driving the bus.

Speaking of Valiev, I wonder what happens when he comes back from injury? Reports over the past couple of seasons is that he's looked really good for the Marlies when healthy but the timing has never been right for him to get another look in the NHL. He was an overager so I don't know what his contract status is. He just always seemed like a guy who *should* turn into at least a depth guy.

Obviously a red herring.

Hyman - Komarov - Martin

Polak - Polak

Polak

There's your real lineup.

Match-ups/experience. It's no slight on Dermott, I'm sure. Kid has been good, but Borgman has also been pretty solid lately. He's got to worry about developing both guys.

I'm with Babs on this one PT. Sure Dermott had good possession numbers and jump started a few nice breakouts, but is he a real solid pro and even better man? These are questions that remain unanswered.

If you want to play two rookies who both prefer the LS together against possibly the best team in the league, be my guest.

Dermott is just the latest shiny new toy to get overexcited about.

I thought they were playing TBay. The NHL site has a graphic with Mattews in front of a TBay goaler. Point is the same anyway. Two rookies is a potential shit show except in AZ's fantasy hockey land.

Gardiner Dermott
Borgman Carrick

There is no reason for Polak to be playing over Dermott and Borgman. Zero reason at all. Those guys fit the style of the team perfectly—aggressive, mobile defenders who can handle the puck competently or better. Polak is not an NHL defenseman at this point.

Unfortunately none of Carrick, Dermott, or Borgman have been able to gain Babcock's trust on the PK. Hainsey and Zaitsev are the main guys, then Polak and Reilly.

It's weird because I could totally see Borgman doing well on the PK. Same with Dermott, he PKs a lot for the Marlies and they have a similar PK structure to the Leafs.

Yes he is. This is all hyperbole. And he's a better PKer than Dermott, Borgman or Carrick. With Zaitsev out, we need an experienced guy who can do that. Simple as. BTW, which team in the league is icing 6 puckmoving defensemen (many of which are 6' and under) and tearing it up?

Quick, now take Zaitsev out at the same time as Polak! Then insert a rookie with 2 NHL games to his name!

Whoops.

Sounds like alot less penalties the Leasf have to kill.

Good thing Dermott is 6' 208 lbs and Borgman is 6' 220 lbs...

Dermott must be real solid because he does not look 208lbs.

He is pretty darn strong for his age.

Even if Polak was the best penalty killer in the league, spoiler alert: he’s not, he takes penalties at such a high rate that a) his main purpose is negated, and b) the cost outweighs his contributions when he isn’t the one taking penalties.

Why is he taking so many penalties while getting fed cushy bottom pairing minutes you might ask? Because *gasp* he’s overmatched. And boy let me tell you it doesn’t get much easier than he’s had it, so if he can’t hack it here then he shouldn’t be in the league.

Y'all should really let Mike Babcock know this. I'm sure he'd be thrilled to find out such a discovery!
