Moore was a positive on the score sheet, but other than that as a rationale , I don't get it.

He had the most offensive zone faceoffs on the team, all 5v5, and hummed along at 29%. Leo lost one at 5v5 as well.

In a home game, where he only played 9 mins at ES, how can it be justified that the 4th line receives 30% of the O-zone draw opportunities?

Seems like I'm hunting down ways to question the coach, but when your 4th line C is getting pounded in faceoffs and it always seems to be in the opposition end, it's noticed.

Kapanen - Komarov - Leivo. Give the kid a shot, let Moore sit and stew. If Moore isn't a primary PK guy, he doesn't really have a role (the Kapanen excuse for holding him back).

Kapanen can create offence, that line currently has no natural finishers. Put me down for Kapanen using his speed to push back defenders followed by a quick stop up and hitting Leivo as the trailer multiple times a night please. Leo does the Hyman work on that line with puck recovery.

Corsi legend Brendan Smith on waivers 50 games into his brand new 4 year/$17.4 million contract. :rudy:

The Rangers also gave up 2nd and 3rd round picks for him at the deadline last year.

He had a really good 2015-16. 2016-17 and 2014-2015 are very similar and then this year he's slipped (or more likely, he had that one good season and he's returned somewhat to his "normal" but is underperforming.). His CF% Rel is still positive but his xGF% Rel is negative.

Looking at his relative possession stats, he's not too much different than Borgman this year. Looking at the zone stats Borgman is much better at exits and entries but a bit worse than Smith at preventing entries. Borgman's offense is much better than Smith's. Or looking at Hainsey, Smith comes out better on zone stats, nearly identical in xGF% Rel and a bit worse in CF% Rel while playing easier minutes.

You could do a whole lot worse than Smith for a 3rd pairing guy and if he has the right partner he might not be a bad option as a #4. I wouldn't want to pay that much for him though, guys with stats like his seem to be available quite regularly (see Marincin, Martin or Davidson, Brandon).

I'll just be glad when the deadline passes and the loud *shoulda* arguments become quieter *woulda* arguments and Bozak, JVR and Komarov are still on the roster. Don't really care what they do with Leivo or Sosh. Both are nice players but eminently replaceable.

Not sure I'll ever buy the Mirtle attitude that "there's a tough road ahead, might as well go home." Some things you only learn by doing them. Adversity is a great teacher.

Why would either JT or NYI want to end their partnership? Why would JT want to lose his position as undisputed alpha?

I'm sure the Islanders are desperate to re sign him but maybe reality is JT wants to move on from that farce of a franchise?

More realistic targets would be Jenner and maybe Byron.
We could use Jenner's phusical edge. Byron and Kappanen on the fourth line and PK would be a great thing to watch.

NYI is a pretty terrible organization, can't really foresee them winning anything in the near future. Almost a decade since JT was drafted and all they've won is one measly round. Many teams better than NYI can still pay him what he's worth and he'll have a better opportunity to win.

Sundin had multiple playoff runs here and the team went to the ECF a few times. Toronto also wasn't an unstable gong show that had issues with arenas and attendance. By the time Burke came in Sundin was at the tail end of his career, as opposed to Tavares who is in his prime and has won a single playoff round.

Saying it's the exact same situation is not accurate at all.

It can work. Pitts has two and a half alphas. I'm cheering for Kessel to win the Art Ross this year. Wouldn't that be something. Just to think we retained on that shit. I digress...

Matthews/JT

Thats why?

Sundin never won a playoff round until his 9th season. JT has had more success so far in his career then Sundin had through 8 seasons.

Leafs were a shit hole organization from the Ballard days until Shanahan arrived.

Montreal has the need, and the cap space. There's only one reason why they kept the cap space. And now the Rangers want to "rebuild". It can't get anymore transparent what they are planning to do. It's an arms race and there's only one bomb. Who's going to pay the most? Shit wouldn't it be funny if its the Rangers, JT in a Ranger jersey?

Nylander is a pretty special player. He is inconsistent at times, but his skating and ability to gain zone entries at will are paralleled by few in this league. As he becomes a more consistent player he is going to be extremely valuable (hell he already is). Datsyuk level? Perhaps not, but we didn't even know Datsyuk would be Datsyuk when he was Nylander's age.

I also think it's unfair to compare Nylander to Datsyuk when JT isn't even that level of player. Prime Datsyuk was basically Bergeron with better offense.

3 Selke's and multiple ppg+ seasons is Bergeron with better offense claw. Stylistically they go about it differently but the end result esp in terms of possession is very similar.

Bob said on his latest podcast that Anaheim could consider moving Antoine Vermette if they continue to be a bubble team. He would be a good Boyle-esque pickup for the Leafs. He's a UFA coming off a 2 year/$1.75 million AAV contract, so re-signing him would likely cost well under $2M. Who has a better fourth line than Komarov - Vermette - Kapanen?

It's a good a time as any for a packaged depth deal to occur.

The only real options for roster space without involving waivers is sending either Dermott or Kapanen down. Neither should happen.
Or you could see if Sosh, Leivo get any bites through waivers.
