We should probably have a thread to talk about the tourney if anyone is watching it.

Pretty sure our giant Finnish kid is the 7th D.

Marek Zachar on the Czech team really intrigued me. Small guy, but seems fast as hell and was killing penalties, blocking shots grinding it up, but getting into the offence too. 30 points in 30 games for Sherbrooke.
19 years old, could be a later pick along the overage strategy of last year?

Libor Hajek also had a few nice flourishes on D. Tampa draft pick. Biggish. Can handle the puck and is quick skating.

That's all I noticed out of the game. Didn't get to watch the Canada Finnland game after the 1st goal; which was total bullshit btw.

Lilly with a laser of a breakout pass from behind the net to centre ice that leads to a goal. No assist, but he deserves one.

I didn't watch that closely, but Lilly was getting zero PP time. The top unit had Dahlin, Nylander and Pettersson up high and they played the entire PP every time I saw them. Part of it might have been that the Czech's PK unit was bad and rarely cleared the puck, but there were a couple of whistles where they could have switched units and they didn't.

That is about as clean and beautiful a hit as anything I've seen in this tournament in recent memory. They don't make hits like that anymore.

Sweden has three horses on defense, but their coach is playing playing their top six pretty even minutes. Dahlin is the only one over 20 minutes, and the other five are between 12 and 18 minutes. Liljegren is 5th on the team, behind Dahlin, Brannstrom, and Jesper Sellgren and Jacob Moverare, who are garbage compared to Lilly.

They should try using their best players a lot instead of barely at all.

If it's not my own team playing an outdoor game, it's usually so unpleasant to watch. Add in snow reducing the visability to see the puck aswell as decreasing the east/west style of hockey. Even if it was the leafs on that ice, on that day, I'd considering flipping.

Pretty disappointing tournament for Lilly so far. Not because he's playing poorly, but because he's hardly playing at all.

He technically QBs the second PP unit, but Sweden only uses one PP unit. He doesn't play the PK and they roll six defensemen at even strength, even though there's a major drop off after you get past their top three (watch both Swiss goals, where slow-thinking d-men cough the puck up and directly cause the goals against). When he does get on the ice he's consistently effective. His skating and puck moving are phenomenal. This is the sort of thing he does:

If he keeps playing 15-16 minutes a night I would say that sending him to this tournament was a waste of time. He already plays more than this in a better league for the Marlies. It's insane that Dahlin, Brannstrom and Lilly are not each playing well over 20 minutes a night. Imagine if Babz played Rielly 22 minutes, Zaitsev 18 minutes, Gardiner 15 minutes, and Carrick, Borgman and Polak between 13-15 minutes a night. That's what Sweden is doing.

It's lame but I'm hoping in the knockout games they will lean on him more.

Hey look at that, Lilly gets some ice time and picks up 1G + 1A and is named Sweden's player of the game.

Goal:

Assist (hard to see, but it was a tape-to-tape shot pass that caught Andersson off guard):

Nice pass on the PP (Sweden had Liljegren playing down low while Nylander was on the left point, and not just for a brief period):

Darn near looks like this is one of the top d-men in the tournament and he maybe shouldn't be playing less than undrafted and middle round plugs.

The coach doesn’t really need to do anything other than roll lines in this tournament until the games start to mean something.

The Swedish coach is so retarded it's hard to watch. He's still not using his top defensemen enough even though there are obvious opportunities to use them. The first period had two perfect examples. Dahlin played the entire PP early in the game, meaning Liljegren and Brannstrom weren't on the ice for 2+ minutes in a row. The first d-pair over the boards after the PP should be Brannstrom - Liljegren, but they weren't. Then later the Swedes go to the PK, and that means Dahlin and Liljegren also aren't on the ice for 2+ minutes. Dahlin - Liljegren should be on the ice as soon as the PK ends. Again, no. Better use your 4th rounders and undrafted guys instead.

Use your best players, ya big fucking idiot.

Lil has always seemingly had a 50/50 offensive/defense mindset to me. That said he's more mature about "when he goes" in tonight's game.

Dahlin aside, it doesn't have the star power, but this has been a phenomenal game to watch. Back and forth. Even steven.

Maybe just make this an "all things junior hockey" thread?

Hamilton beat Kingston tonight to improve to 28-10-3. First in the East.

Hadn't been paying attention when they traded Conor Roberts to Flint. Sucks for him, but he's put up 6g 5a in 18 games since the trade. 3rd overall ohl pick, 6'4", 215 lbs Centre, not sure why he hasn't put it together.
