- a stick that broke while taking a shot
- a normal stick check that broke a stick
- Dermott for being too much man
- a Pastrnak "oh, I've fallen on my knees" dive when he felt a hand on his back/one-handed hook from notorious brute Andreas Johnsson

The Bozak and Zaitsev penalties were legit.

Someone tell Elon Musk to drop all that other garbage he's up to and invent us some referrobots.

The Backes/Hyman call might be the worst of the bunch. Backes did everything he could to engineer a fight and Hyman was basically rag dolling until he had to clinch to keep from getting punched. And then to take Gardiner too? Fuck off.

Forgot about that one.

Somehow it's just as bad for Hyman to get jumped and Gardiner to get punched in the face as it is for Backes to jump a guy and Chara to punch someone in the face.

Even the lines were fucking brutal. No wonder the league is fast tracking new refs like Corey Syvret into the league a season after he quit playing hockey.

Chara took another poke at Gardiner's midsection as they were standing around when the guys fell to the ice too. Nothing.

Jake Gardiner - two minutes for obstruction interference for obstructing Chara's fist with his face.

The Dermott and Johnsson calls were the most egregious. A couple of the others were frustrating, but ones that are likely more obvious on replay than when called live. But still, fuck Boston.

Travis Dermott received only nine minutes and 36 seconds ice time all night; Zaitsev had nearly that much in the third period alone. With the game on the line in the third, Polak played more than Morgan Rielly and nearly as much as Jake Gardiner.

Noticed Hyman took a couple of runs at Marchand and hit him high last night. Moar.

Pasternak v. Nylander

Willy has more skill but Pasternak makes up for that by playing a more direct game.

Pastrnak is also a far better diver.

Our game after the score went to 4-3 was pretty good overall.

When Nash’s stick broke the second time did the refs not think that they could be the issue?

Why are head shots penalized if the point of contact is the top (shoulder) but not the bottom of the arm (fist)?

What are we basing this on?

Pastrnak has 70 goals over the last two seasons to go along with a 70 and 80 point season, respectively. Bill has two consecutive 60 point seasons.

Based on production, which is a pretty fair barometer for "skill", I feel that "way better" is a pretty big overreach, no?

Who said "way better"?

I think Willy is a better pure skater and handles the puck better. That's all.

Pastrnak doesn't default to a pretty game like Willy does, and has had the opportunity to play with two world class players in their primes. Hard to say what Willy would do in similar circumstances.

Do I need to add that it was meant as a compliment to Pastrnak?

Can't really see much of an argument for Willy right now. A year ago I was pretty certain Willy would surpass him but I feel like he took a step back this season playing a much more timid game and looking pretty invisible for big chunks of the season. That being said there is merit to Pastrnak having a bit of a linemate advantage. Hell you can even see how much space he gets in this series thanks to Bergeron and ratboy

fair enough.

Pastrnak has impressed me this series. Consistently dangerous. Willy, not so much.

Willy plays with Matthews who is no slouch in the skill department, either.

The problem, as I see it anyway, is Nylander's inability to consistently do the things required for him to be an elite force - at least at this stage of the game. Pasta on the other hand, has made an almost seamless transition to the NHL game. Pretty impressive, IMO.

Willy still has lots of time to figure it out. Also, his inability to pull it together will give us the chance to get him on a better long term contract, potentially. So there's that.

Yeah, but Matthews is a kid and was in and out of the lineup. Agreed that Willy's problem is consistency and willingness to do some spade work and play a quicker, more direct game. You watch the Bergeron line and they make a couple of quick plays and the puck is on the net. Rinse. Repeat. They're not going for long skates with the puck or trying to set up top shelf snipes all the time. They make some room then put the puck to a dangerous area in a hurry. Willy could learn a lot from watching that. Matthews too, to be honest.
