There's a guy on boredz, 93LEAFS who's pretty connected to the scouting community. He's had some interesting takes and is critical of the Dubas move / favours Hunter a lot. Claims that the two did not like each other much so a union was never really going to work with Lou gone.

He's also quite against bringing in the SSM guys, especially Wes Clark.

Probably (certainly) two different philosophies toward drafting and development. Shanny has done well so far so I'll give him the benefit. It will be an interesting two years or so. How will Babs adapt is the big question.

Was at a thing with Dubas once when he just joined the organization and lemme tell ya this kid is sharp as fuck. He’s the real deal we won’t be disappointed.

Gilman named the second assistant GM and will be in charge of the Marlies.

Fun fact on Gilman, he helped design the rules for the 2017 expansion draft. :danson:

I don't know much about him tbh. But now we have the guy that wrote to cap rules and the guy the wrote the expansion rules? Big Blue is finally Bigging it up.

Canucks AGM circa 2008-2015. Canucks fans speak highly of him, he was their 'capologist'. Before landing this gig, he was actually being considered strongly for ECHL commissioner.

Friedman had this to say today:

"One thing about him that he was really good at, as much as anything else was, he sold a lot of those players on: If you take a little less, we will make it work here, and anything we won't spend on you, we will spend on somebody else to help us win.

And he sold that to the Sedins, Burrows, all those guys..."

Hard to imagine Burrows deserving more than $4 million a year and the Sedins would always need to take less because they were a package deal.

Burrows was signed for 4yrs x 2M AAV in 2009 after posting a career high 28 goals and 51 pts. The 4M contract didn't happen until 2013.

So, in Mirtle's recent article he mentions that Dubas isn't done with the front office. Dubas has a quote saying that they have some areas to flesh out but that people shouldn't expect movement soon on that front.

Maybe a revamp of the scouting staff and section but probably not until after the draft. I dunno if they'l need an AGM that handles scouting like Hunter did. Seems most organizations have a director of scouting and that person runs things. Reid Mitchell is currently our director of scouting and Jim Paliafito is the director of player evaluation.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them add another person to the executive team to split the player development and Marlies GM roles that Gilman has since those combined with the contract stuff is quite a lot to manage. For that reason, my previous mentions of Pellerin or Staios as another AGM seem possible (maybe more so if/when Gilman leaves for a GM role elsewhere). Keefe is an option to take over for Marlies GM duties, depending on whether or not he wants his path to be coaching or front office (he was GM of the Lumber Kings and I think was fairly involved in the Soo but would have to double check that). There's also Dubas' replacement in the Soo Kyle Raftis that people have mentioned.

And of course when it comes to experienced options there's the rumour about Francis. Sean Burke was rumoured years ago, I'm not sure if that's still a possibility.

And Gilman was working for the Canucks at the time.

I'm aware. Friedman was referring more to their actual competitive cup window; by the time 2013 rolled around the Canucks were fresh off two first round exits where they had a combined total of 1 win. At that point Gillis was desperate to save his job and made some shortsighted decisions.
