That can’t be explained in hockey talk. It’s a straight up salary dump by a team known for doing this. A contract like that never brings back value. Long live the Manchester United Yankees

heist lol

Guzman is their 7th best prospect according to Baseball America and Devers isn't in the top 10

this would be like us trading Vatanen, Speers, and Bastian for Karlsson

Obvious collusion is obvious. Bet the Dodgers, Astros and Cubs offered better packages. The Marlins will be a farm team for the Yankees now.

If Karlsson has McDavid’s contract (and then some) yes

Still a great trade but Miami wasn’t trying to get fair value. They were just trying to give the contract away.

I’m not familiar with the MLB luxury tax rules but a friend of mine who knows baseball says the Yankees can trade Clint Frazier and Chase Headley for Gerrit Cole and Gleyber Torres for one year of Machado, they’d be under the luxury tax for the season.

Why the hell would someone accept Clint Frazier and chase Headley for Michael Gerrit Cole?

Yankees would also have to throw in Chance Adams who is their best pitching prospect.

Also I think Clint Frazier is going to be a stud.

Todd Frazier is probably going to be a Met because the Mets are pussies and won’t go after Donaldson

Seems like the Jays are going to foolishly hang on to Donaldson. Makes me mad.

Machado is so fucking good at 3rd that I selfishly don’t want to see him go back to SS although he’d give whatever team he goes to a huge advantage on offense.

Speculation that Ohtani, who is only 23 and has already had bone spurs removed, might need Tommy John soon. His UCL is in bad shape and their going to try and treat it.

Yikes.

Yelich has a very team friendly contract so I doubt they move him.

The Marlins really didn’t have that bad of a core. Try just needed some pitching. Instead they scrapped most of their top end talent.

That’s the thing though. The fans are going to hope for success because the rotation when healthy is pretty solid. Degrom and Syndergaard can go against any 1-2 in the league.

i've just become so pessimistic about the rotation. all five guys are never healthy at the same time, and Harvey sucks now anyway

i think if absolutely everything falls right they could compete for a wildcard spot - that would mean a healthy Cespedes, minimal injuries to the starting pitching, and at least one decent addition to the lineup

not holding my breath

LeBetard had Manfred on his show today and ripped him to his face for allowing what has transpired in Miami. Fast forward 20:15 in if you want to hear it. Really worth the listen. If it was face to face they probably would have fist fought.
