GDT: NJ @ PHI

At least it worked out for the Oilers.

Sorry Keith, when the team needs 5 to win because every shot sneaks through you it’s not time to get sensitive. They need 4 or 5 every night with that scrub in net

deLOUsional wrote:Schneider is a top 10 goalie who gives us a chance to win every night. When he's on his game, he's a top 3 goalie. I do agree I'd like to see more consistency game to game but Schneider is reason #2 why we are somewhat successful this year (albeit a distant one).

I don't like or agree with the Kinkaid bashing but IMO, we would have 2-3 more wins these past few weeks with Schneider in net and that would be a huge difference.

I think one of the biggest jobs of a goalie is to give the team in front of him confidence that he'll have their back when they fuck up. If I were his Devils' teammates, I'd not have much confidence with Kinkaid in net that he's going to stop the puck when I need him too. He just moves around too much. He almost has a chaotic energy similar to what Hasek did. The difference was that Hasek could stop anything and completely bail you out. To a lesser extent, if I were Schneider's teammate, I'd get nervous every time he left the crease. If I'm the goalie coach, I tell him that he doesn't leave the crease if he sees an opposition player anywhere near the zone. Just let the puck go.

The thing with Brodeur was that almost right from the beginning, his teammates could rely on him to make the everyday solid save and to take away shots by his ability to play the puck. A team is built on trust from the net out. And the trust with Brodeur was there. If he had a bad game or let in a bad goal, you knew he'd come right back.

With Schneider, he's positionally probably better than Brodeur, but he lets in soft goals and isn't as mentally strong. He looks like he's getting better in terms of confidence after letting in shit, but he still makes panic moves to play the puck when he thinks his team needs him. He needs to just rely on his skill and stay put.

Kinkaid, needs to either stop scrambling and rely on his ability to stop the puck, or get better with making those acrobatic saves on scrambles. Either way, I don't think he's skilled enough to be a starting goalie in the NHL, and I don't think he's reliable enough right now to be a very good back up. I really don't know what that leaves him with other than a career minor league goalie.

the only thing kinkaid might be better at recovering from than schneider is perhaps alcoholism and super bowl monday.

Better than Schneider: Vasilevsky, Price, Rinne
Arguably better: Fleury, Bobrovsky, Holtby, Rask
At about the same level: Hellebuyck, Quick, Bishop, Lundqvist (not this year)

I'm sure I'm missing guys, but I think it's clear that there's a lot of competition in and around Cory's skill level. He's still top 10-ish.

Also better numbers don't necessarily equate to a better goalie. And it'd depend on which numbers you'd want to use anyways.

Hope not, they dealt him a shitty hand this season. Plus reinforcements are on the way next year.

I hope they’ll bring in some better veterans than Kennedy, Strait, Loov, etc for him. Bertschy and Lucia are good for depth (in place of guys like Mandat, Baddock et al). Kearns has been fine but who knows if he’ll retire

Davies
Anderson
McLeod
Seney
Sissons

All legit prospects who could help right away. Hopefully some NCAA UFA too.

I’d even bring Senn over if they can. He’s older (21 or 22) already

Irony is that I said “We’re close, we just need to find a 1st liner” and then we found a first liner and are now in line to make the playoffs. I very well could be 30 games away from being proven right (again)

No but I expected him to do something other than bringing in the spare parts he had in Pittsburgh. Bringing in Palmieri was a good move. I also like Hynes as a coach.

Trading Larsson sent this team back 3 years whether you want to admit it or not. I haven't the slightest idea how this defense gets repaired. If you want to enlighten me on what direction Shero can take to fix it, by all means let me know. It took 4 years for Larsson, a 4th overall pick to blossom. I'm not trying to wait another 4 years for the defense to stabilize.

We could have made the playoffs 3 years ago if we kept Larsson.. c'mon Shero.
