Assuming this bill passes as is I'm gonna make more money getting laid off instead of Colgate seeing my contract out. Nice to catch a break for once

Everything is done online here with banking. Checks might as well be betamax. Get it together murica.

I've used direct deposit/online banking for at least 20 years now for everything.

Everything except my rent. I still pay that every month with a cheque. This is deliberate. In case I need to skip town in a hurry.

I believe the Wuhan numbers and how they've stabilized, but I find it pretty unlikely that a global pandemic only hit one city in the country of origin

It didn't, they have released number for other regions too. They seem to have managed to prevent outbreaks anywhere else though, as the number remain low. That or they're a bunch of liars, I guess:

I'm not super optimistic about their numbers though. It was unchecked for a period of time such that it caused a pandemic. Tens of thousands of cases in areas were a few individuals travelled, and that didn't happen in even more populated areas down the road. Nobody travelled from Wuhan to Beijing or Shanghai? only to SK, Europe, and North America?

I'm just having a really hard time reconciling that. Again, I get how it worked in Wuhan but despite that the rest of the world is in tatters but none of the nearby cities were affected much at all (relatively).

Trying to find explanations for how that happened. I assume mass-testing + quaratine, but I'm overwhelmed by Wuhan stories and no testing stats outside of Hong Kong+Macau.

Snippet of a conversation from ~a couple weeks ago:

"There's only like 1,000 cases in America! 1,000 out of 350 million! What is that as a percentage? It's nothing!"

Me: "How many cases were there two weeks ago? How many cases will there be two weeks from now?"

"...yeah that's the problem."

It's been about 2 weeks since Mardi Gras ended. I think the south is gonna blow up with cases now. With how fat they are and how bad their healthcare is we are gonna see our deathrate skyrocket.

We are also gonna pass China in confirmed cases tonight

USA is now the worldwide COVID-19 champion

Also Pat's correct, the south is about to take a huge hit. Mississippi, Florida, Tennessee probably going to get it the worst. LA been under a shelter-at-home order, which should reduce their 1-month outlook. They'll get it bad, probably sooner than the others, but eventually make out "OK" in comparison

Realistically it’s fairly locked down here. Most population centers you can’t go to work and you can’t eat anywhere. For me for example an order is a formality it already happened

Right. The states that are essentially making otherwise-intelligent people choose between saving their countrymen or feeding their family.
