Video Games and Some Guy who Eats Pie

At least it worked out for the Oilers.

Playing a trial of NHL 18, it's the same game as NHL 17, 16 and 15. But I put Zacha and Hischier on a line together, Zacha has four points in two games and Hischier has five. I added Athanasiou from Detroit and put him with them and he has four points too. Lettuce prey.

So NHL 18 is the same game as the last 3 years before... If I haven't bought NHL since 14 or 15, how many more years do I have to wait for it to be reasonable to buy again?

Every EA Sports game is the same. They buy out the competitors and now have no reason to try. Don't blame it on the producer. That's why FIFA is the only good game they make, because they have to compete with PES

i got last year's madden at the christmas psn sale for like 50% off and didn't regret my purchase. of course i hadn't played a madden in like seven years at that point so it was relatively fresh. it becomes dull as shit once you realize ultimate team is a god-awful timesink designed to drain your money with microtransactions and you need to play essentially every day to stay on top of everyone else. it's designed to get you addicted and leaves you feeling super drained by the end.

id recommend playing literally anything else.

In this day and age, I don't see the point of playing any sports game unless you're playing against someone online. One player mode is so repetitive once you get used to what the AI is programmed to do.

Pretty well. All players play the same way too. No individuality to any player.

Madden for the PS2 and original Xbox were fantastic. 360 and PS3 slowed the game down so much and gave it too much of an arcade feel.

NHL is a little weird because the goalies are so robotic that there's only one or two ways to really score.

FIFA is the best because of how much control you have of everything.

Never played the Show but it looks good. Pretty terrible that it's not available for Xbox. Seems like that should happen in 2017.

It's a Sony Studios title, they're not going to give the game to their competitors.

The best sports game is The Show, and NBA 2K is right there.

NBA sucks. Impossible to play defense against the good players. I guess that makes it realistic but it's shitty gameplay.

I used to be all-in on Madden because I was in an online franchise for a couple years, that was definitely fun

but I would almost never play it outside of that and now that I've outgrown the franchise (too time consuming), I havent bought it in 2 years

I used to be an uber competitive madden player and probably could have made some serious cash if streaming and what not was popular back then.

Granted online gaming wasn't as huge as it is now but I was a top 20 player on PS2 madden for a while if you disregarded the bots caught in the rankings.

I had top score in Galaga at the Contemporary resort in Disney near or around 1984 and would gather a crowd when I played in Pixels fashion so there's that

I've fallen into the pattern of buying a given sports game once every few years, and usually at a price drop. I've done that for the Show, even though it is really great seemingly year over year. Haven't bought NHL in a few years, haven't bought Madden in longer. I buy Fifa most years, but around black friday since I'm content waiting ~2 months for a $20-$30 price drop. I bought NBA 2k the last year or two (including this year's), but its actually a good game that sees some improvements each year. I'm really not seeing much of a reason to pay full price for any of these games anymore since the price drops are like clockwork. Only exception is if there's a good pre-order bonus for a game mode you care about a ton, but that's rarely the case for me anyway

I just received my Nintendo Switch for my son. What are some things I should get for it? Here is what I'm thinking..
  • Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
  • SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC UHS-I card
  • amFilm Tempered Glass Screen Protector
  • Car Charger (Any better than others?)
  • Travel Case (What do you guys recommend?)

Is there anything else essential I'm missing?

Thanks

I got the smaller rectangular travel case put out by Nintendo. It's pretty compact but holds the system and some extra joycons. It also comes with a card hold for the games. It obviously doesn't fit the dock but you can put that somewhere else.

The switch also just uses USB C to charge so any universal car chargers should work but just check the power levels to assure you're getting something that will keep up with the power use. I believe it's 5V 3A. A 5V 2.4A should be just fine. Anker makes really good chargers for 10 to 20 bucks. Then just pop a USB a to C cable in there. I think aukey makes one that is usb-c to c so you could use the cable that came with the system and it also has a regular USB port. I think that's only like 15$.

Now that FIFA 18 is nearly out I thought I'd have a bit of fun with my free yearly name change token on FUT and changed the team name to Buildwall FC to see if I got BM'd more. Haven't really got the (You)'s I was working for but I have seen a staggering spike in people with Mexican club badges leaving the session

Yeah it looks cool but the game play looks repetitive as hell. Lack of health meter for boss fights seems like a ridiculous oversight
