Hockey Talk and pet rock discussions

At least it worked out for the Oilers.

On a more serious note though I reckon he'll clear 6 easy, and to be fair if he plays more games like he did yesterday it'll be worth every penny

I'd imagine he will be in the $7-7.5 AAV range

Is he really worth ~10% of the total cap? My hot take is no but we have 2 years to figure that out or whenever his contract ends.

Yes, absolutely he is.

Like I said, he already makes $6/year. He is going to get at LEAST $7.

I'm not minimally worried about how much he'll make if I'm honest, don't we have like the entire GDP of Finland in cap space?

I know he will. I’m just stating it’s an overpayment for the position he plays and the term it will take him to age wise.

this summer, we'll have ~$20 million in space with the only "vital" pieces to sign being Wood/Santini (guys like Stafford, Coleman, Gibbons too). Clowe's contract finally drops off.

Hall is UFA the same year that Greene is. I can't imagine Greene playing much longer, if at all, past his current contract, so theres another $5 million in space. Lovejoy is gone after next year, so theres another $2.7 in space. Prout and Moore are gone after this year (hopefully), so theres another ~$3 million in space

We are set up very well cap wise for awhile.

Gotta give Johansson and Henrique new deals in the summer of 2019.

However if anything, those guys won't get THAT crazy of raises. Maybe $3 million total between the two of them.

I honestly don't know if I am willing to give Henrique a long term contract. Would much rather try and dangle him in a package for a LHD.

By the way, this is just idle banter. He has 2 more seasons after this under contract. I have a hunch he won’t get more than he has now since he’ll nearly be 29 in his first UFA season. The league is getting younger and I think money and term will not be pretty for older players (in the scheme of things) not in prime positions

Will probably get more than he gets now cause the cap has gone up significantly since then.

I would bet around 7M.

how about keep the 1st and trade severson and henrique for lindholm and then sign carlson in the offseason to take severson's spot on your line-up.

Would Anaheim want that for Lindholm? We are definitely trading our first if we aren't in the top 5-8 this draft for defense help next year.

i just want room for carlson on the right side. i don't want shero to not bother trying just because he's already got players filling those spots.

There is no way on earth Washington isn't signing him. He'll command a crazy contract if he does go UFA too and crumble from the pressure. Either way Shero needs to not even think of him IMHOMOHOMOHOMOHOMOHOMO

greene will need to be replaced in the next 2-3 years too. the only hope is that santini's ability to play defence will extend his career a little bit.

Hall will probably take a high AAV on a shorter term deal, maybe like 3-4 years. That way he can cash in on a 7 year deal that’ll take him to retirement.

If he were to take a 7 year deal at the expiration of his current deal, it’ll take him to 36. No one is signing a 36 year old to anything decent.

Zacha needs to be way more aggressive with the puck. He's just not a threat offensively right now

Other side of the coin is even as is he's better than Noesen

zacha's in the weird position where he's, at present, the fifth or sixth best winger on the team. hall, palmieri, bratt, mojo...even stafford is outplaying him. those top four are likely all here for a while. i still believe in his potential but he's just kind of a weird fit right now.

im not opposed to trading him while his value is still high.

I have no sympathy for Zacha right now. He deserves to watch or be demoted, it's pretty simple. He's a waste on the 4th line as he won't get much of a chance to do much and his linemates will be poo
