At least it worked out for the Oilers.

Brodeur went 16 of 18 with both exceptions being years where he put him 19. One was strike shortened, the other he missed 50 games to injury.

Congrats to Lundqvist for being the first good goaltender to play 13 straight years without ties.

If you recall, every year they kept saying “this is the Nth year in a row that Lundqvist won 30 games”

Then he won 24 games one year so they just changed that part of the stat to 20 wins.

the no ties thing is a far bigger reason

he won 30 games on the nose his rookie year.. surely one of those was in the shootout. Until recently, I believe Lundqvist had the most SO wins in NHL history.

It makes it even more fucking amazing that he never won 40 games in his career with the shootout help. Marty did that 4 times without the shootout.. (and 4 times with it).

it's insane.

i think marty did it 3 years straight and like 5 out of 6 at one point?

and he missed a full season right in the middle of his prime

the last 11 of Marty's 12 year streak were 35+ wins as well. What a shambolic way to try and wank off your meaningless goalie

The GOAT wrote:Brodeur went 16 of 18 with both exceptions being years where he put him 19. One was strike shortened, the other he missed 50 games to injury.

Congrats to Lundqvist for being the first good goaltender to play 13 straight years without ties.

Also worth pointing out there was a full season lockout in between those years which would have a) been another 30+ win season and b) made it a 13 year streak anyway

Wear that crown with pride, king nothing

if Marty played his entire career with shootouts + no lockouts, he may legitimately be pushing ~850 wins.

53 wins from 105 career ties (even though he was surely better than .500).
19 more wins for 1994-1995 lockout (doubling his wins that year in 40 GP).
40 more wins for 2004-2005 lockout (average of year before/after lockout).
13 more wins for 2012-2013 lockout (doubling his wins that year in 23 GP).
=125 more wins

so conservatively, that puts him at 816 wins. I won't compare to other goalies who didn't have shootouts either but Lundqvist has 424 right now. Even if you give him credit for more wins in the one lockout he endured.. he would barely be more than halfway there.

it's fucking insane.

EDIT: actually would be 61 wins if you take his career SO record (see below). So 133 more wins for a conservative total of 823.

Lundqvist is the first goalie in NHL history to win 20 games while playing for the New York Rangers in the 2017-2018 NHL season!

Congrats!!

it was Marty and Lundqvist for a while until Marty retired. I'm not sure if Miller ever passed Lundqvist.

If you extrapolate Brodeur’s career shootout win% and apply to his tie total (which could even be a low estimate since the shootout originated towards the later stages of his prime) he would have 780 wins which is just absurd.

I’m convinced the people in charge of putting together the outdoor games want to see how ridiculous they can make the event before people realize paying out the ass for them is stupid.

Play a professional game outside on crappy ice? Check
Terrible sight lines? Check
Terrible camera angle? Check
Bad weather? Check
Forget about the sun? Check
Astronomical price gouging? Check
Give the Rangers an away game despite playing in the same city? Check
Roller hockey and poorly designed knockoff jerseys? Check
Play an outdoor game in the spring in LAS VEGAS? Check

As much as we wanted Wedge to be a difference maker especially after his cup of coffee I don’t think he’s the type of player you worry too much about. He’s a dime a dozen because he’s not 6’4” or bigger.
