At least it worked out for the Oilers.

Philly is one of those teams I'm not sure how we catch. We are building on same timeline on them yet they're already more skilled at the NHL level, have a better prospect system, have more picks than us going forward and have NHL assets that they will sell off for more picks without really missing much (Simmonds, for example).

Just not sure we were ready to take the jump from the amassing high end prospect step to the we can wait for our guys to develop and just supplement with a good draft pick/UFA or two step.

The Devils won more games than Philly this year

Well that fucking settles it. We should be better than them going forward for sure.

You said they’re a team we have to catch. I don’t think we’re really chasing them. Their defense and goaltending stinks. Their only forwards realy worth a damn are Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Konecny and we’ll see about Patrick. That compared to our Hall, Palmieri, Nico, Johansson and we’ll see about Wood/Bratt. Are they truly that far ahead of us where it’s a mystery how we “catch” them?

I'm with apice on this one. We're better then Philly in quite a few areas. They are pinning their goaltending hopes from the draft in Carter Hart. They have a couple good young guys on D and of course Giroux but in the long run I'd bet on us without rose tinted glasses.

It's 2018 and they still have trash in net. There has to be some supernatural element at play keeping them from ever finding one. I'll give them credit though they manage to push through but in the end it still comes back to haunt them.

Philly might rush Hart and ruin him. He should go the slow route like Cory did playing 3 years in the AHL but then again, Vancouver could afford to do that. We might not be laughing in a few years if he does turn out to be a true stud #1. Goalies are never a sure bet but he's got all the makings to be thy man in net.

Florida will be hungry too.

Yeah, this is the draft to hit on a good D prospect.

Not sure which side of the bubble we'll end up on next season. A lot of the teams that made the playoffs last season weren't in this season. It looks like that could easily happen again. A lot things have to break just the right way just to get in again.

Is Boyle good for 20+ again? Coleman for 25? Who's the new Gibbons? Gibbons again? The league seems to have figured out Bratt. The rookies can't have sophomore slumps. Vatanen can't turn into Wood or even worse Clowe. I don't think he will. Does Johansson return to form? Can Schneider bounce back for more than 28 good games? Will Greene lose yet another step? Zajac will be 33 in May. I doubt we face as many backup G to start the season. How much of an impact can we expect from Anderson, McLeod, Quenneville, and Seney? Can Hall repeat his bid for the Hart again? Are we soft to play against again? Maroon wasn't really physical after his first shift.

Tampa set a template for how to stop us. Other teams will follow suit. Hynes will need to adjust.

Ray has a busy summer ahead of him.

It can be done, but to get past one and done will take improvement without much regression from anybody.

I expect a tougher year next season without a major acquisition. I don't think small tweaks will push us over the top.

I've been on the threepeat bandwagon since they won it last season. Gary wants it. I think whoever comes out of the West will give them trouble though.
