NJD Offseason Thread

At least it worked out for the Oilers.

also as far as zacha goes, I try to include him in a package if possible. I also was hard on him, wanted him for our pick and was stoked when we landed him. u just cant predict these things so whatever the fuck. maybe it takes him a couple years to get his shit together, like bertuzzi and other mongs like him. I'm all for giving him his time to find his game but the second an offer comes along for a superior player and they want him included in the deal, yeah I move him without hesistation. as for severson, I dunno, such promise. maybe hes a victim of circumstance or the surrounding players, or maybe hes just not that good. I'm willing to give him another year tho, but like zacha, I move him without hesistation if need be. like if Edmonton wanted him and a 3rd or something for Larsson, ok. theres noooooooo way the oilers recoup their losses on that move. poor adam, come home.

I like JVR but his age and talent level at the moment tells me he’s going to get a contract that is fair for the first half of the duration and then bad for the second half. I’d give him pretty much whatever he asks for on a 3-4 year deal but a 6 year deal at 7 mil doesn’t sound like something I’d want.

Mueller is a guy that will be a bottom pairing guy on a really good team.

It would have been a big help if one of Severson or Santini were solidifying a role on the second pairing but here we are. I'm low on Severson these days and who the hell knows with Santini. He's gotta play. Someone has to replace Greene unless you want to count Vatanen but it still leaves you with a hole. Andy shouldn't be playing 20 minutes per game anymore. Unless we get lucky with a UFA or trade, I am not sure we have the answers.

Mueller is fine but he'll be the quiet, reliable defenseman. Hopefully he fights for a top spot with his play in camp and beginning of the season.

He's perfectly serviceable as a 3rd or 4th defenseman. His development was stunted this year with the injury, but he was coming across quite positively. Can pass the puck, can skate, good at shutting down the forecheck.

Funny enough, Stan was gushing about him in HIS article.

We need a top dog who can place everyone else in a role they can handle. I think even one great defenseman will be enough for us to get by. I don't want to see a mix match of plugs up and down the line up each game. John and John please.

Butcher and Mueller are the most promising. I think they'd even make a solid tandem if they can reach their potential. Mueller as a 3, Butcher as a 4/5. In a perfect world, Vatanen is your number two.

Vatanen and Butcher are the only two guys who are for sure keeps for me.

Mueller looked okay in spurts but we didn't see enough of him. I agree that he should be a solid bottom pair defensemen.

Greene, Lovejoy, Severson and Moore can all fuck off.

Santini should be given an actual NHL shot, especially since he's no longer waiver eligible.

Some names in our range

McIsaac - he has stalled at junior level but has potential. dno what to think
Groulx - always sucked
Thomas - never seen him
Veleno - will probably go higher, but he's an excellent skater+ stick handler. great passing. he's also 200 lbs already. NHL ready imo.
McLeod - probably worse than his brother, avoid.
Wilde - never seen him

from SNet
23. Ryan McLeod, C, 6-foot-2, 200 pounds (Mississauga Steelheads, OHL): A slippery and skilled centre, McLeod has high-end vision. As one OHL GM told me “where his brother Michael (NJ) smashes down the front door to score, Ryan sneaks in through the side.”

can't wait for the sex tape.

He comes off like a higher functioning Moore. When he’s on he’s great but when he’s off he’s John Moore.

Wilde would be nice cause he’s a very well-rounded, highly competitive guy. Pretty big too at 6’2” and almost 200. Heading to Michigan in the fall.

Kupari is highly-skilled and should be around in that range

Looking into DMen that are free agents following the 18-19 season and the list is insane

Doughty
Karlsson
OEL
Gardiner
Myers
Edler
McDonagh
Ellis
Schmidt
Hjalmarsson

now, I am not saying wait til these guys hit UFA. Maybe they are sneaky targets to acquire in a trade this summer a year early.
