Recap of a recent Pens trade.
Image
Dallas Stars forward Brenden Morrow has waived his no-trade clause to help his team complete a trade with Pittsburgh that sees the veteran sent to the Penguins.

The Penguins also receive a third-round draft pick in 2013 in exchange for prospect defenceman Joe Morrow and a fifth-round pick in 2013.

Scoring six goals and five assists in 29 games this season; Brenden Morrow is currently in the final year of his six-year contract worth an annual average value of $4.1 million.

He has spent his entire 12-year career with the Stars. In 835 career games he has 243 goals and 285 assists.

A member of Canada' Olympic Gold Medal-winning team in 2010, Brenden Morrow also has 78 career playoff games under his belt. He has 17 goals and 25 assists in the post-season.

He was originally selected by Dallas in the first round (25th overall) of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Joe Morrow is playing with the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins of the America Hockey League, where he has recorded four goals and 11 assists through 57 games this season.

The 20-year-old native of Edmonton was drafted by the Penguins in the first round (23rd overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.

Penguins get the Oilers 3rd round pick from the Stars, they previously acquired that 3rd from the Oilers for Fistric. Oilers traded their 3rd away previously.

First shift of the game Morrow flattens Subban and gives him a 3rd degree concussion, Subban retires as he now lives out the rest of his life believing he's a fire hydrant.

The Penguins now have 25 players on the roster. Beau and Despres should not be put in the AHL by any means though. So 2 guys need to go, not sure which two. I think Bortuzzo is the odd man out on the blueline and on forwards, your guess is as good as mine.

So apparently, the Dallas - Pittsburgh deal is that the 3rd involved is the lowest 3rd out of the 2 that the Stars have. So if Oilers start winning and do better than Minnesota (lol, not), we get their 3rd, it's likely the Wild's 3rd. So it might be a middle of the pack 3rd, higher than the one we have in any case.

So the Pens draft picks: 1st, 3rd (Wild), 3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th.

I'm hoping Ray can add to that with his next 2 moves. He does need to make them though, 25 players, roster limit is 23 unless he plans on putting 2 guys on the IR. Malkin and Letang said they could be ready for tomorrow's game.

Or I forgot that in a week, the roster size expands or whatever, so Bennett and Despres could get sent down for a week until then. Malkin and Letang aren't playing tomorrow.

Seriously, if we can some how get Iginla too...

Kunitz, Crosby, Iginla
Morrow, Malkin, Neal
Bennett, Sutter, Dupuis
Cooke, Vitale, Kennedy

I don't think Ray is done just yet. I would keep Letang and Malkin out until a few days before April 3rd, to send down Beau and Simon to get the roster size down. Getting Geno & Letang at 100% is key, the team has been finding ways to win and adding 2 guys like Murray and Morrow adds more experience to the roster. I still think Shero wants to add some more depth in the bottom 6. The defense is more than set I think, we might have the best defense core going into the final stretch - Letang, Murray, Orpik, Martin, Engelland, Despres, Niskanen, Eaton, and Bortuzzo.

I still think the faceoff thing is an issue with the team, especially in the bottom 6, Vitale is good and Sid is good and Sutter isn't half bad, after that it gets mediocre at best with Malkin barely being 45% and Jeffrey being around the same mark.

Vitale - 62%
Crosby - 54%
Sutter - 50%

Malkin - 45%
Jeffrey - 44%

Having those 3 is fine, if anything you double up with some of the guys the way Bylsma did in the Flyers game where he had Sid & Sutter out together, so if one gets waived, you have another guy that can take the faceoffs. I still think Vitale should get increased minutes, he should be the guy logging the most PK minutes out of the forwards.

I still kind of want Jagr at the deadline, kind of disappointed Shero didn't try to get him, but maybe Ray is still a little miffed about the way Jagr handled the summer of 2011. At least with Morrow we now have a guy the team is going to want to "win the cup for" to add more fuel to the fire of winning another one again. Out of the East, I think the Pens match up better against everyone, out of the west, the Hawks and Ducks are a strong team with better depth for goaltending.

So Letang is off the IR, Despres was sent down until the roster expands after April 3rd. Reading the comments on the Pens site frustrates me, if that's how people see the average Pens fan, I can see why people hate our fan base, the same can be said about every fan base though when I peruse other sites and read their comments so not much to feel bad about. But omg, it pisses me off. "Send down Glass! Send down Bortuzzo! IT's a shame Despres was sent down, he was proving to be a regular"...how about you fucking learn what this game is about and the rules? Dip shits.

Anyways...Morrow should do well.

I also have a sick feeling Shero moves a prospect, 1st, and a roster player and maybe more for Iginla, apparently he wants to sign a 2yr ext with the team he goes to. If Shero can some how swing that...everyone is going to hate this team even more.

If the Pens roll into the playoffs with a roster like this, you make it to the finals or people are getting fired.

Kunitz, Crosby, Iginla
Morrow, Malkin, Neal
Bennett, Sutter, Dupuis
Cooke, Vitale, Adams

Only if Phaneuf murders Subban with a huge clean hit that makes him think he's back in line for the first double down.

I don't have a good feeling about this game. It could be the whole Iginla talk and the fact that the Pens are very much in that race still and it kind of terrifies me as a fan that maybe over-valued prospects given the sad state the prospect pool used to be in during the 90's and early 00's.

What do you guys think about Morrow so far?

He looks a little lost at times mostly because he's not used to the Pens system at all yet, but his speed, hitting, tenacity, I love all of that. Looks like Kunitz out there, which is what I expected.
