YOUR 2013-14 Columbus Blue Jackets

Post #1 by Captain Roy Bringus » Sat Sep 14, 2013 10:09 am

(I'm not sure JR survived the summer, but here goes)

Going out on a limb here. 3rd place in the division. Shittsburgh takes 1st. Islanders take 2nd. Rangers season is tragically derailed by Brassard murdering Arniel after a game in December. Flyers have Mason so we all know how that will turn out. :busky:

Alive and well.

I'm not nearly as optimistic - I don't see where the offense comes from, even after Horton returns.

Sixth in the Metro (pushing the Caps for fifth), following Shittsburgh, the Rangers, Flyers, Isles and Caps.

Presently in initial cohabitation negotiations with a new Ms. jr - do I sell and move in with her, enjoying unlimited guilt sex on a perpetual road trip? Or do I hold out for her selling and moving in with me, getting it on home ice but only when lucky? All suggestions welcomed.

Edit: yeah, the Flyers finish third - Emery is the undisputed number one by Thanksgiving (Canadianian)

Congrats on the co-habitation stuff. Afraid I don't know much about it. Nearly moved out west to be with Mrs. Bringus in the spring, before deciding that was a terrible idea. Home ice is important, but hey, so long as you're staying in the same area, don't see it having a huge downside either way.

On another note, It sure was nice of ODOT to start construction on every major road in Northern Columbus at the exact same time.

I'm still optimistic. Murray and Jenner are going to have an immediate impact. The one thing that concerns me is backup goalie. It's not a good sign when you have to pull your backup goalie in a preseason game, which happened last night apparently. An average team can't afford to concede 10-15 games a season by starting the McBackup.

Horton said he left Boston for Columbus because he wanted land and a quiet neighborhood in which to raise his two boys. To that end, he bought a home on five acres in Galena, just on the north side of Hoover Reservoir. They have two French bulldogs and an Italian mastiff. - See more at:

Didn't know Horton was a survivalist.

Dealt Blackjack to Calvert on a 15 dollar table. Not in high limit even though he's almost a millionaire.

Non douchebag and non whiner. Bought in for less than 200 and left with 850. Tipped.

Interesting note in the local rag this morning - the CBJ are 36-36-18 lifetime against the rest of the Metrosexuals. I just assumed they would be miles below .500 against any group you compared them to.

I like working it. It makes me not enjoy working my other gig which is just an office job. There's some 10 dollar BJ and 5 dollar table games now if you're cheap. Or 100 dollar/10k blackjack if you're a high roller. I've been fortunate enough to deal 100 dollar tables a few times. Lots of alone time haha.

Seriously, it's been really nice to not hear about a bunch of ex-Jackets suddenly blooming the minute they leave Columbus. Nash is still the same heartless bastard. Brassard still disappears for 5-6 game stretches, Dorsett still takes shitty penalties (and it's nice to see a fanbase with less hicks not defend his retarded play with a bunch of bullshit about character) and Moore and Stralman look like Moore and Stralman.

Probably a combination of contract-year performance, return to health, decent linemates, and desire to prove last year was a fluke.

I know you've posted about the toxic Arniel and Brass combo. Even though Arny's not the head man in charge, you gotta know that shit is still bad in the room.

Looking forward to Nash's downward spiral in NY. That team is on the verge of collapsing on itself IMO.

And Stralman. Can't believe he's in the league still. I've heard he's been decent enough in NY. He's just one of those guys that I couldn't stand pretty much from day one in the Capital City.

I didn't mind Stralman. Yeah, he was terrible in his own zone, but hey, every team needs a PP specialist. I'd rather have Stralman at 2 mil than Wiz at 5.5 mil. :maw:

Wiz is gonna pass Umberger as the worst contract on the team by January. He's lost an alarming amount of footspeed (and wasn't really that fast to begin with). Combine that with his poor decision making skills and I don't seem being anything more than a 6th/7th defenseman who shouldn't play more than 5 even-strength minutes by 2015.

I'm not ready to give up on him, but I've been more of a Wiz fan than not since the signing so I may still be in denial. Whereas I've never been high on Umberger so I allowed my rage to flow more easily.

Good news is the D depth looks good. Strong, even. So far.

Not sure this worked out the way I thought it would ... selling my condo in Pickerington, and moving into her house near Hall/Norton Road (CRB will understand) - wedding in February. Scared shitless, but never more certain of anything in my life.

WTF is going on w/the CBJ? Other than the opener, they've played tight - up until last night. Four game losing streak, just like that ...

Shit man, congrats! :busky:

Jackets will be fine, assuming Bob goes back to being great instead of just good like he has been. Just some shit luck on that roadtrip. Really only 1 total stinker (the Washington game) 1/10th of the way through the season.

Didn't watch the game yesterday - just watched the highlights. Prout's intended pass off the boards was a bad break. Dubinsky's hit didn't look cringe-worthy. On to Shittsburgh.

Went to the OSU-BGSU game last night. Couldn't have been more than 1,000 people. It's sad that Gene Smith doesn't give a fuck about hockey, because with OSU's resources, they should be able to put together a half decent program.

Was the Schottenstein Center ever a good arena? It's not even 20 years old and it's already a depressing dump. I know I'm spoiled by Nationwide, but the SC just seems so outdated.

Agreed completely. And with the B1G hockey conference starting up, maybe they're finally forced to put some of that football money behind the program.

I've had this exact same conversation about the Schott with co-workers, within the past month. The place has always looked bare and half-finished, and when you've got a small hockey crowd in there, all that cold concrete blandness is stark. I've tried to tell myself that it serves a slightly different purpose than Nationwide, but still - a school with OSU's resources should have been able to come up with something a bit more user-friendly.

Rick Nash (more like TRASH LOL) being out certainly isn't helping.

-Henrik's smaller pads
-The new coach sucks
-The old coach sucked
-The GM has always sucked
-Their captain is out (captains are meaningless, though. As a Columbus HFer I know this to be true) and their leadership is lacking
-Holy shit that Brad Richards ordeal
-Their young bucks aren't as good as they thought

Also I don't like the Schott. Way too big. Basketball rarely gets sellouts for OSU games. Yeah I suppose it's great for them to have a concert venue, and a good NCAA tournament worthy (in capacity) place, but other than that it feels like it hurts in some ways more than it helps.

I wish nobody but the mens basketball team had to play in that Fortress of Solitude.

I know St. John is outdated, but knowing they intend to tear it down makes the SC setting all the more painful. That place had an incredible vibe for big games.

Don't forget
-Having Derek Dorsett providing "character leadership" (He's probably my least favorite former Jacket, if you couldn't tell) :prickle:

In other news: Sounds like Bobrovsky just won the Russian Olympic starting spot by default.

Judging by how accurate you've been previously (very), I don't have your sources. But I'm hearing similar stuff. This isn't sustainable.

Having seen the support through the first six-seven seasons, that makes me angry.
