Nyquist Signs. Now the Trimming begins

Post #1 by NewsGuyOne » Tue Aug 20, 2013 2:52 pm

Good deal (2 years, $950,000 a year) and Nyquist could prove to be an immense bargain this year if used in scoring and PP situations. Not sure why he'd sign a two-year deal at that price, but whatever.

So now we've signed all our RFAs. And we've got too many forwards.
Zetterberg Datsyuk Abdelkader
Franzen Weiss Alfreddsson
Nyquist Andersson Tatar
Miller Helm Tootoo

Sammuelsson Emmerton Bertuzzi Eaves

In my estimation, two of Tootoo, Samuelsson, Emmerton, Bertuzzi and Eaves must go.

This changes, of course, if Helm is still hurt. And if that's the case then Emmerton holds a little more value as a center (but not much, because Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Weiss, Abelkader and even Franzen can play center).

The Wings could also demote Nyquist - the only forward who can be demoted without clearing waivers
An injured helm and demoted Nyquist means no roster moves need to be made.

But let's say Helm is healthy (which would really help the Wings). I don't think the Wings want to demote Nyquist.

Which two players are let go?
The Wings are about $650,000 over the cap, so the cap isn't a big consideration.

Ideally, I'd dump Eaves and Samuelsson. Other Wings fans want to dump Bertuzzi and Tootoo.

But who would trade for these guys and their salaries with so many good UFAs on the market?

My guess is that we lose Emmerton and Eaves - either for a 7th rounder, waiver wire, or clearing waivers and going to Grand Rapids

Eaves and Miller seem very poorly built for bottom six roles. Tootoo... I dunno, he can hit at least right?

Couldn't understand the reason to resign Miller given our roster

Even still..I was surprised to see he was one of the first to resign. There's talk Nyquist might start the year in Grand Rapids - at 24 years old.
