Jailbait, what do you think of the Broncos' free agent signings?

And given them, where should they target in the draft? RB seems obvious to me.

I thought the Broncos had a great FA. Cromartie may or may not show up any given Sunday, and I honestly think they should have moved champ and tried to get a star corner either in fa or the draft (I think champ is done) but I can't call it anything but a win.

In the draft?? Here's my thought. You can find hb's and inside linebackers in later rounds, if I was the Broncos I would go DB in the first round. You still need a number one corner, and I think going corner early should be looked at. A safety would also be a good look.

also look for nose tackle early, its a premium position and without ty Warren it is a position of need.

As a bit of a throw from left field, I think a pass catching tight end would be big. Honest to God, Eiffert from the Irish should be around when the Broncos pick, and he is a beast going over the middle. If the team feels good on defense, picking him would take the o to a new level.

Decker and Thomas on the outside, Welker in the slot and Eifert tearing up the middle is enough to make most defense's shit their pants. If that happens, fuck Denver. Fuck them in their stupid asses. Maybe pick up Bernard in the 2nd.

Then imagine if Denver actually found a good HB. They would be unstoppable on that side of the ball.

That's who i was referring to with Gio Bernard. Dumervil is a free agent cause his management fucked the dog on the deal. Good work boys.

Yeah, this is going to be a nutty one, but my bracket looks good.

As an annual ritual, I generally pick at least one upset in each of the 4 brackets - a flyer that I don't believe will happen, but I pick it anyway because upsets always happen. This year, I did two per quarter bracket. It usually turns out to be a mixed bag, but it's fun. Doing this, I got the Oregon, LaSalle, Cal, Temple, and Minnesota games correct (though the Minnesota and Temple picks were a genuine ones, not flyers - plus the Temple one wasn't really that much of an upset). Oklahoma, Missouri, Cin were incorrect.

Overall, my bracket isn't bad at all at the 32 team mark. I have 6 teams alive in the Midwest, 5 teams alive in the West, 6 teams alive in the South (I didn't get either Philadelphia game, and I had Oklahoma going to the Final 8, so that part of my bracket is fucked), and all 8 teams in the East.

So, 25 out of 32 right now. Totally lucky, but pretty good. We'll see how it looks Sunday afternoon.

One year (some time ago), I had picked 13 correctly out of the Sweet 16 - by far my best first weekend ever. At Final 8 time, I had like 1 or 2 teams left, and at Final 4 time, I was completely out of the bracket.

Only pick I've gotten wrong in the Midwest was St. Louis fucking the dog vs Oregon. Ohio St is the only team I have left in the West bracket, and most of those losses piled up in Round 1. Not a pretty sight. Ignoring the West, I got 9 of my 12 Sweet Sixteen picks right, which would have been a respectable mark if the West wasn't a bracket full of cunts.

I've got 10 of 16, which isn't bad. My problem is that 3 of my Final 8 picks are out, and 2 of my Final 4 picks are out. So after one more set of games, I'm pretty much a dead man walking in the West and Midwest. FWIW, I have Indiana and Michigan as Final 4 teams out of the South and East.

OK, VLoo, I'm pretty much a rotting carcass at this point. I have OSU correctly in the Final 8, but had them losing before the Final 4, so my West bracket is basically done. After looking so promising, my East bracket is 100% toast now. In the Midwest, I have Louisville getting to the Final 8, then losing, so I have perhaps one more win there, best case. In the South, I have Michigan still alive, and making it to the Final 4. So two possible wins there.

Not very promising all around.

It wasn't missed, it was just not worth commenting on. QBs get paid. Flacco had that monster deal too, it's all utterly ridiculous (especially considering about half of that deal is guaranteed) but it's a result of the massive shift in NFL rules, etc., shifting to such utter reliance on that position.

Romo is serviceable and has had some seasons that are Pro Bowl caliber. He's an utter choke artist but the Cowboys could live better with him than descend to the position of the Browns, Jets, etc., who are fucked by having absolutely nothing.

People were wondering why they didn't let him play out the contract and then let him walk if he didn't earn it, and draft a QB in the 2014 draft. The problem is that Romo will lead them to an 8-8 or 9-7 record and Bridgewater, Manziel(potentially), Fales or Boyd won't be available at 20ish and they'll be fucked and left with nothing. if Manziel doesn't come out, then I doubt the other 3 even make it out of the Top 10.

The big issue with Romo's deal is the 55mil guaranteed. The same as Drew Brees and 2mil less than Brady's previous contract. Tied for 2nd most guaranteed money in the history of the NFL. That's a fucking disaster and a joke. Somebody was going to pay Romo on the FA market if not in Dallas, but that's excessive for a 33 year old who has a 1 playoff win in his career and a pretty questionable ability to win games when they count.

I have Louisville and Michigan still alive, both making the Final 4. I have them both losing there though.

Seems like we're the only 2 doing the bracket in these parts. Good chatting with you about it. Even if we both got mercilessly bitchslapped this time around. :-)

Santana was only relevant if his elbow/shoulder/etc. could hang in by a thread of ligament/muscle/etc. by trading deadline for a small return where the Mets eat salary. Didn't happen. Doesn't matter. Wright, Wheeler, Davis, Cowgill, Harvey, (future) Wheeler, (future) d'Arnaud time.

Another easy dominant win by the greatness that is the New York Mets and Matt Harvey.

Should things appear to 'derail' and the Mets eventually end up in a spiral and potentially not tally even 75 wins, please remember that this is out of pure-hearted charity on the franchise's part.

Nah, we are happy with RA.
The Mets look to be set for the future tho.

Wright + Davis + d'Arnaud? You got 3rd base, catcher and DH filled nicely.
Not to mention some solid pitching prospects in Noah and Wheeler.

Ike looks miserable. I wish he'd stop his constant bitching at the umpires but he's smart - and healthy - enough to get back to normal eventually. His power numbers will compensate for a poor average (e.g. around .260-275). Though if he fails we could move Duda or Wilmer Flores, once Flores graduates, to 1st, so even in the worst case scenario there are options.

Plus our pitching depth is strong. Wheeler and maybe Montero this season, then in 2015 we're looking at Syndergaad and maybe some others.

Decent arms in the pipeline:
Wheeler
Montero
Syndergaad
Mateo
Fulmer
Familia
Mejia (maybe; must get healthy first)
Matz
Leathersich
Tapia
...and others. I don't follow minors much.

Obviously there will be a failure rate involved, but number of quality arms help marginalize risks. Harvey, Niese, Wheeler, Montero/??, Gee could be a great rotation. Closer might be Familia or Fulmer assuming Parnell doesn't cut it long-term, with general bullpen depth being bolstered by the number of options.

Infield is almost set, though I don't know how good d'Arnaud will be:
1B - Ike / Duda / Flores (all 3 with significant power)
2B - Murphy
SS - Tejada? (maybe Cecchini down the line)
3B - Wright
C - d'Arnaud (Plawecki backing him down the line, good combo)

Shortstop is the weak link right now in what should otherwise be a solid infield both offensively and defensively. Tejada doesn't have a great arm nor speed, but he's a disciplined hitter...could still develop power too, not sure about him. Heard his work ethic isn't great but I don't know how valid those claims are. Don't know how Cecchini will handle MLB pitching.

OF is more dicey:
Duda - Bad defensively so the batting needs to be consistent (lots of power)
Valdespin - Needs to prove he can hit LHP, good overall player if so
Nimmo - Seems likely down the line, though CF is in doubt
Michael Den Dekker - Lock for starter if he can improve his hitting -- Ks too much in minors (>20%), so questionable as every day OFer despite amazing defense
Baxter - Probably a platoon player, very good defensively
Nieuwenhuis - Not a starter, platoon player or journeyman, good defensively
Cowgill - Probably a platoon player or journeyman

I am likely forgetting some others...but whatever. Our positional prospects are weak, trading some of the pitching for hitting in the future is likely.
