You have it totally wrong. Datsyuk is by far the most overrated player on this site. A center's responsibility first and foremost is to generate scoring chances, because there are two defensemen and a goalie who are less able to do so and more capable of preventing scoring chances. Datsyuk is elite defensively, yes, certainly. He'd be a better player if he was elite offensively instead. Here are Datsyuk's scoring finishes since the (05) lockout:

17, 17, 4, 4, 28, 51, 32, and let's give him another top-20 finish for this year. This is the resume of the player that some posters feel is the best player in the world, and others say is a 1st ballot HOFer. Two-way play isn't just defense. To be the best two-way player he would have to excel at both offense and defense and the offensive ability of Crosby or Malkin or Stamkos or MSL (to name just forwards) is so far ahead that the defensive gap is irrelevant.

Datsyuk is, by far, the greatest instance of style over substance to be found in the NHL. Youtube highlights of him stealing pucks or doing SICK DEKES are not the same thing as driving a play forward and capitalizing, which many NHL players do better, even if they do it in a more boooooooooooooring fashion.

I was lurking that site and saw this, wow WOG, haha...Wings fans heads are going to explode.

Boucher is basically just a Sacco who can run a 1-2-2.

Boucher would make a fantastic Assistant Coach at this point, but as a head coach, his system was very flawed. Every time the Pens played them, their defense was atrocious and not just the personnel, which also sucked decidedly, but the way they would collapse into their zone, the passive checking and pressure, it was bad. His "mind" offensively, was damn good.

I think his next career move is to take an assistant coaching job, if he's smart, he pesters Babcock like no tomorrow for a job and stays there for the rest of his assistant coaching career until he's ready and takes the job after Mike retires.

Unless Colorado offers him the President, GM and Coaching job, Roy isn't leaving Quebec. His pull on that team is unparalleled to anything the Avs can offer him job wise.

Any other 30 goal scorers and 40pt defensemen you guys willing to give up for Myers?

How about...

To Buffalo: Duchene, Siemens, and 1st
To Colorado: Myers, Kaleta and a 3rd

Just trying to get into the cold and empty mindset of Sherman.

Everybody assumes Chris Stewart is a 30 goal scorer because he's black and they feel bad for him.

You guys keep going ahead doing the ostrich head-in-the-sand splitting straws thing, if that makes you feel better.

Stewart has scored 28 goals in a season twice, was at a 30 goal pace those two seasons, and is at about a 40 goal pace this season. He's a legitimate NHL goal scorer, and a good one.

If you read back a few days bro, you'll see that I admitted to myself that Chris Stewart would be nice to have back. It was a silly trade.

I'm icing and wrapping up a wrist I hurt skiing the back canyon at Winter Park today. Got all fucked up in a mass of trees at the bottom. Hurt my wrist, ripped a hole in my ski jacket, and cracked the lens of my goggles - all in about 15 seconds or so.

Great day back there though. :-)

Drinking beer now. Life is in its proper place.

Well, that puts a damper on things. Maybe we can out tank them at least.

Here's the kicker.

You forgot Kris Letang (out 7-10 days).

Now that's a scary line-up. + rep for spelling Deryk right.

dempsey_k wrote:How would the pairings look with him back?

Not sure, the one pairing I know that will be the same is Orpik-Martin. I think a better pairing would ideally be this...

Orpik, Martin
Despres, Letang
Murray, Niskanen

Then you rotate Eaton, Engelland and Bortuzzo in to keep the D fresh in a long battle for the cup. But those pairings has a puck moving defenseman on every pairing and solid defense all around.

Bylsma usually pairs Niskanen with Letang but has also paired Despres with Letang and has had Niskanen with Eaton for the 6. With Murray, it changes things. We'll see what the defense looks like against the Jets, it will give a better idea where he sees Murray in the line-up, we know where Letang will be regardless. Penguins are 11-0 with Eaton in the line-up. I think tomorrow the pairings will most likely be as follows...

Orpik, Martin
Despres, Eaton
Murray, Niskanen

Possibly, Murray is far more physical than Scuderi, Scuderi is a much better defensive defenseman than Murray and in a different class for shot blocking. I think Murray could be with Letang, I am sure Bylsma will want to try that, it would then leave Despres with Niskanen and that wouldn't be a bad duo as well.

If Murray is with Niskanen tomorrow on the 2nd pairing, then yeah, I could see Letang and him there because that 2nd pairing LD is Letang's partner.

Scuderi is a bad comparison, during the cup run, the 3rd pairing was Gill, Scuderi. That year the defense was this...

Orpik, Gonchar
Eaton, Letang
Gill, Scuderi
*Boucher

Best comparison - He's a slower version of Orpik.

That's a good thing. Looking at Murray's clips, he's not all that slow, he's an average skater at best, which is fine, he won't be asked to rush up the ice with the offense, the team has said as much and they expect him to play his style and be a defensive defenseman.

Watching his clips though, holy shit he's a beast of a person. He's 6'3" 245lbs. His nickname is still a mystery though, Crankshaft, he never elaborates on it, he likes the mysterious legend status of it.

So the Varlamov trade for the Caps is now partly Ribeiro (Eakin was also dealt), Erat and Latta. Filip Forsberg was dealt to the Preds. Eakin has been more than decent for the Stars.

Conacher was dealt with a 4th for Ben Bishop. Surprised Bishop had that much value...or maybe the Bolts didn't think highly of Conacher? Haven't watched much of the Lightning.

I have no idea what to think about the BJ's trade for Gaborik; I guess they could afford to dispense with Moore given their blue line depth. Replaced Nash, making the sum essentially:
Nash, Moore, Dorsett, Brassard for
Gaborik, Anisimov, Dubinsky, Erixon, 1st

Sabres keep getting those picks. Doing a better job than Feaster at a fire sale at least. Vanek in the future given his comments about not sticking around for a rebuild beyond 1 year? UFA in 2014...
