Don't go there so either Dmitri or Mars would have to comment.

We look as terrible as I expected defensively. It's going to be another long season.

Yeah, I still love O'Reilly more than Duchene...but I'm pretty happy with what Duchene did last year. Let's keep them all. (arms)

The defense was shit, I thought the forward group might compensate somewhat but it was very disjointed. Even though we had training camp I'm sure they're all still trying to find chemistry. We're damn lucky to be up 1-0, and could have been up 2-0 if O'Reilly could have settled the backhander and aimed at the opposite side.

Wasn't watching with 100% concentration but I thought Guenin had a few good plays, which is the most positive thing I can say of the blue line, and obviously O'Reilly and Duchene had a good period, the latter by virtue of that PP inside cut.

Expecting our play to pick up in the 2nd and see more cohesion.

Oh, and Varlamov looked pretty shaky too. Hope everyone settles down.

Really? I thought he looked pretty good and got thrown into the shit pretty much immediately like 30 seconds in. Granted, I was also lacking in the concentration area.

I don't disagree he was put into the fire, but he had some weird lapses in concentration it seemed like. Or maybe I should just stop multitasking.

My feed is way behind. That was an awful goal from Fasth. I can't believe we're up 3-0.

That was a pretty bad turnover in our zone. Unnecessary. Good job by Varlamov, and I also loved the pinch that EJ made in the offensive zone...he struggles a ton on the point but he's pretty dominant down low.

As poor as we are in the defensive zone tonight(and probably the foreseeable future), Anaheim has been very sloppy with the puck in their own end.

Well, they did pretty well in the first. Beauchemin was murdered but how many other players would be able to sell that move and interception like O'Reilly did? I think they just panicked a bit from being behind, and probably got over-confident given how sloppy we started off the game with turnovers everywhere and no coherence what-so-ever.

End result: good for us.

Also, dempsey, thinking about it I really don't remember AB posting since the floods. I hope he's OK if that's the case.

This game is fun to watch. If someone like Landeskog could plaster Corey Perry, it'd be a perfect game.

He has amazing athleticism and lateral movement. The Ducks announcers alluded to Roy's comments and it's bang on: it's all mental with Varlamov. He has all the physical tools, just a matter of consistency. Still pretty young so he can pull it all together. I mean it's not like we have someone like Pavelec on our hands, and Varly is staying healthy at least.

I think most would agree with that assessment, I just find it frustrating to have seen him play this well in the past and then has a total lemon the next game. But when he's on, he's very impressive.

Let's see how he does behind a real defense. It's still a bad blue line now, but it's improved from last season personnel wise - marginally - and can only improve further moving forward. And we have a real head coach now (not necessarily a great one, who knows?, but NHL caliber).

We've relied on him fairly heavily and it might have had a burn out effect. I don't dismiss the results thus far but we do have to put them in context...same goes for some other underachieving players.

He started off tentative but as the game went along he got more assertive and confident. Think the switch really went on about the time he took the penalty.

I love GameCenter, it's a pretty good deal. Love to see around the league action during off-nights or when I get a little tired of the Avs. NFL charges like twice that for a fraction of the games.

That was as pretty a goal as you'll see. Downie's vision on the ice is something else, and nice finish by Duchene.

Anyone who doesn't watch Downie regularly only knows the guy who goes batshit every now and again. He's a very, very good player and there are very few players in the league who compete harder. I'm a huge fan.

No, I like him as a hockey player, I just don't trust him not to take dumb penalties. And I don't think his health has been spectacular but that can be fluky so I don't pay too much attention to that. Unless he starts to Havlat us or something.
