I knew the Avs have been kicking ass around the NHL so far this season, but this is ridiculous. On the other hand, Roy is one hell of a coach.

Maybe he was into BDSM, filling a typical female kidnapping fantasy, and some bystander saw it and misunderstood.

Yeah he beat his SO and took her for a ride.

He should keep this shit for the offseason. Right now is no time to be beating a woman. I mean, she's a fucking woman ffs, why do you have to beat her? She already knows how much lesser she is than her man.

Definitely, but what a fucked up story.

Also not something the Avs need to deal with, when they're off to such a great start.

Same, and even when being selfish, the team will manage itself fine. He's one player, Giguere is more than capable, and as professionals they'll concentrate on the game when the time comes. It won't be a factor.

I know - I struggled to say it the right way (and obviously didn't). You're right - it is just a game, but his teammates aren't part of this and yet they'll suffer because of his actions. At the very best, it's a distraction they didn't need. Most of the team is very young, and they will be asked about it a lot in the near future.

If the charges/accusations are true, then I don't give a shit about him. His victim(s) are a completely different story.

Are we sure it's a 'her'?

Well, I suppose the 10-1 start was too good to be true. For any time anyway. Sounds like a real dipshit move though. Too bad, the dude was playing lights out.

Boston's about to win the World Series, btw.

Imagine if it wasn't a her. And it was his SO.

I wonder how Russia would take their starting goaltender in Sochi turning out to be a fruity pebble.

Also:

According to Varly's dad, the alleged kidnapping was nothing more than Varly taking his gf to the movies "against her will"

I'm no legal expert, but isn't that kinda like kidnapping?

Maybe they'll do a Varlamov-Snowden prisoner exchange.

Who will the Avs call up here? Aittokallio?

This story is getting absurd. She says Varly was drowning her and beating her with a HUGE bicycle? This can't be real...can it?

She may be psychotic or lying.

Or maybe she was involved in a BDSM pool bicycle dunking game. Fuck you and your limited imagination.

Sorry, Olya. The judge, jury and trial have already spoken.

Sometimes you have to drown her with a bicycle.

Charges dropped. DA didn't feel they could prove beyond reasonable doubt. I get, and had the feeling for the last few weeks, that she'd end up refusing to testify or something along those lines and they'd be forced to drop the charges. As a fan, good to see Varly come out of this, but as a person it's pretty shitty if these allegations are true and he's getting off scot-free.
