I guess they didn't really have much of a choice, they cant exactly sign him to another bridge deal to see if he's the guy we're seeing now. I suppose 5.9 isn't exorbitant considering Lundqvist got 8.5 or some shit. Rinne at 7. Meh, whatever.

He's already proven he can get away with it, so I'm not too worried about that. Just beat her with a sack of oranges. Won't leave any bruises that way.

Patrick Roy breaks Varly's deal first to bag boy at grocery store

Also just realized Corey Crawford is making 6 million a year, so now I like this deal.

Oh, well. What can ya do. He's Roy.

He's kind of a smarmy prick. And no, I will not clarify to who I am referring.

Like what the man with two penises says when his tailor asks him if he dresses to the right or left.

I haven't read anything by Dater in probably a year or more, but I think he had a good amount of smarm in his dealings with the twitterverse. I could be misremembering though.

Not a terribly satisfactory contract. If we're willing to go that high then we should lock him for the max term and save on the back end. Otherwise the figure should be closer to $5M.

Either way, I guess it's only a difference of $900K maximum in perceived value. It's doable and the cap is rising anyway.

I'm happy about this contract because I'm sure some feminist is going apeshit on a Tumblr blog that Varly beat a woman and was rewarded to the tune of $30 million

All of them are a bunch of hacks with inflated opinions of themselves.

If he's guilty then it's certainly a shame, but I'd rather the law err on the side of caution - which frankly doesn't happen in all cases, and exactly what percentage it does is incalculable.

You don't exactly hear as much of a fuss made for the wrongly accused being acquitted or convicted and eventually overturned.

All the reports on it paint a picture of him roughing her up, but not enough to leave any marks which tend to be necessary for a conviction. He's off the hook legally, but doesn't really acquit him on a real level.

The real level shouldn't involve Twitter, Tumblr, or pretty much any ignoramus on social media given the informational void. It's unfortunate that isn't the case.

This stuff has all blown up in the past few weeks: how veneration of accountability and old school journalism tends to be a paper-thin canard and is just reinforcing exclusionary viewpoints.

Don't want to derail a thread about Varly, but if you're interested, this article caused a nuclear firestorm by intrinsically getting some major things wrong on the very subject: http://www.thenation.com/article/178140/feminisms-toxic-twitter-wars?page=0,0

Yeah, I didn't mean they are not entitled to those views. Just saying that my own, entitled, view is that they are a bunch of ignoramus fucks for 100% concluding negatively on a man not convicted by the law and for whom all facts are not fully known to the public in relation to the case; there are too many factors like mental disease and even (petty?) revenge that lead to some requirement of healthy skepticism and prevention of definitive conclusions in absence of sufficient evidence. That's all.

I, too, blame Sunny. Where's his Facebook wall now? There are too many defamatory words in my head.

An expensive and somewhat risky contract for sure, but what were they going to do? Dude's killing it during his contract year.

My ideal sign for him would have been $25/5. I would have gone as high as $5.5 AVG, however in the grand scheme of things, with the cap going up, limited options in the market, his play/potential and given what other goalies are getting paid, it is a fair deal.

..Plus its not my money so there's that. :P
