They've been calling that all playoffs too. Not a good penalty to take.

And that's probably game too, I don't think we'll see any late game heroics tonight.

Did the offside rule change? As long as part of Stastny's back skate boot is on the blue line he's still onside right? Dreger on TSN said it was "clearly offside" because Stastny's first skate is in the offensive zone. It's pretty close if we're going back skate though.

Pretty clear hold by Benoit though.

I thought the Hurricanes PBP was OK during the regular season the 1 or 2 games that I caught the Carolina feed when we played them in the regular season, but listening to him tonight, it's clear he's not very bright / has holes for eyes.

He keeps babbling about calling the penalties the same in the playoffs and pre-season.

Roy did say they'll take a serious look at playing Duchene next game.

Hishon smoked Spurgeon in the corner in the 3rd, right in front of me. It was great.

I almost think you have to see what he gives you on the wing. Even if/when he bulks up I'm not sure he has the size to do the daily grind at the C spot. He's got the talent to play in this league though, that's already evident.

Vrbata will be expensive. Mueller may not be. We need some cheap skill so we can apply the savings to defense while not losing much up front.

Again, no idea about what he looks like today. If he has been healthy recently and isn't a shell of his former self, that'd be great; not that the Avs are likely to revisit him.

Vrbata is like 33. Can't imagine him tying up any cap space long term, and in the near future we definitely have some wiggle room to sign a guy like that.

Maybe not.

But then again maybe.

If we move out PAP, I'd maybe give Gaborik 5 mil. I think his skillset fits this top 6 incredibly well. Wouldn't give him anything more than that, and probably wouldn't give him much term with his injury history and inconsistency when healthy.

Ugh. Wilson is barely an NHL player at this point, his assist at the end notwithstanding. He's terrible.

The unsung hero tonight was Benoit. Dude played a solid, tough game.

If we want to keep Stastny, and he doesn't chase after the $7M+ offers that he will get, it'd be much better to replace PAP with a cheaper forward than $4M so we can ensure that we continue to have better bottom-6 forward depth *and* improve the defense further than what PAP would bring back. Therefore I am, personally, very much opposed to Vrbata, Gaborik, etc. That is, the big names that will definitely get a large pay day on the UFA market. (Trust me, they will get a decent amount.)

Wilson has been dog shit. He was bailed out Holden time and time again, including that OT shift I believe.

Right now I think the active defense ranks are:
EJ
Holden
Benoit/Hejda
Guenin
Wilson

Hejda has had some boneheaded mistakes, so Benoit might be over him. Not sure if I'm being too hard on Hejda considering he has had tougher assignments. Holden has just been surprisingly good these playoffs, I think, and has earned the #2 spot.

Hishon did play well last night. When Roy put Hish with Malone and Talbot, there shift gave the Avs some momentum in the 3rd. His hit on Spurgeon was nice. They even started OT together. There were rumors Hishon wouldn't get a contract for next year, but I have to imagine he gets at least a one year deal. No harm in having him in the AHL another year.

Zero chance imo that Hishon doesn't get a new contract. Roy didn't start him in game 4 if the they didn't think highly of him.

They have been patient with him thus far, it would be stupid to give up now; we need more forward depth, and he's ready to step in (just needs more strength).
