BTW guys we signed Iginla. I feel we're not nearly as appreciative of this fact as we should be, regardless of his age. We have Jarome Iginla.

Should be fun next season. Not so sure what that's going to look like in year 3 of that contract.

Has always been one of my favourite players in the league. Very happy to have him.

I know a good bit about Winchester from his Ottawa days. His offensive scoring ability is limited, however, he has really strong puck skills and is fantastic along the boards with the puck. Cliche is easily knocked off the puck, Winchester is pretty hard to get off it. It may just be a 4th line move, but it's a really good one because he'll help them get some offensive zone time, which they rarely got last year.

Just get it over with and give him $6M for 8 years.

They could have locked him up for $5M/year about 18 months ago and the same sentiment would have held.

Well, now he's worth more. It's not a depreciating salary cap and neither is his play.

Maximize value, get a good player or two and be done with it. He's not Patrice Bergeron as badly as Avs fans would like him to be.

He might be an asshole at the negotiating table but he's still pretty damn good.

He was worth $5M. He's worth $6M now. He's a part of the forward corps key to the team's success.

Just pay him the money, include a long contractual term, and trade him later if cap space becomes a major concern and MacKinnon has more experience and dominance.

You maximize his value by having him play for the team, not dealing him off for a reasonable but not overwhelming return.

I figured this out a few days after the draft when I decided to actually look at who we drafted with a bit of interest. A lot of similarities in play apparently.

He would already be signed if that was the asking price. It sounds like negotiations start with 6.5M, and that's not even counting UFA years, where he will no doubt want more.

Probably. Sakic gets paid a lot of money though.

If the Blackhawks can spend upwards of $21M on Toews and Kane, I sure as hell don't want to hear this team be miserly when the prospects of having Duchene, Landeskog, O'Reilly and MacKinnon for under that amount is possible by virtue of Nate's ELC and overall group age. Take advantage of it and trade later as needed. Other teams do it and manage to come out relatively unscathed; we should attempt the same. There's no CBA of doom on the horizon so I won't tolerate excuses from this front office. If O'Reilly is gone, it better be for an amazing return.

Dump Wilson using magic. Get rid of Briere with another fucking wasted 2nd rounder if needed. Just keep the forward core for another season or two at the very least.

I think they want him signed for around or under $5.5M ala Landeskog. IIRC $5M was the rumored figure that the Avs think he's worth.

If they're looking for $6.75M in arbitration, I think $6-6.25M is realistically what they are hoping for. No need to pinch pennies now, we have some time and there's always the 10% summer overage allowance.

There's no way they thought he was worth 5M. If they filed for arb, they knew his price couldn't go below 5.525M. I think O'Reilly wants 6.5M at least.

Yeah, the minimum qualifying offer is higher than $5M; I think that's what they feel O'Reilly represents as a player though.

Wouldn't be surprised in the least that O'Reilly wants the most money; these are not saints. I don't think $6M is even being considered long-term on the Avs' side and that's problematic.

Why are we giving out 2nds like candy? Lack of a viable backup and those 2 deals for 2nd rounders are the only issues I've had with new management thus far.

Avs signed another four liner.

Eh. Wick had a nice year(in the EC, but still), and Everberg was a pleasant surprise. They seem to have an eye for these Yuro types. We'll wait and see.

Avs hire Columbus' assistant GM. One hopes he can do better than the braintrust that traded for Briere and Berra

I have no idea where he heard that from but the KHL is in shambles right now and quite a few guys have terminated their contracts already. Radulov obviously has his connection to Roy from his Jr days and his last stint with Nashville made him a UFA. But really, I have no idea if there's any weight to this rumour whatsoever, just saw it on the NJ broad.

I can't imagine ROR's cap going up much, if at all if we decide to/he let's us retain him. I thought we were in a pretty good spot cap wise, but I also haven't checked in some time.

You could argue that dealing Varly for defensive help would limit the need for a goaltender of his calibre. I'm always going to prefer having a goaltender capable of stealing games, but we need to find a way to shore up that back end in a big way.
