behindthenet.ca has some stats like this, but not exactly what you've asked for.

Just trade Hejda and get a fucking 2nd back that we wasted on Stuart.

I haven't been as critical as others of some of the stars on this team simply because I expected regression from this squad and it was always deeply flawed on it's own blueline, but there must be some level of concern that our captain played like a third liner right up until the team was out of it.
Life's like a dice game and I'm in to win.

Apparently the 2nd is in 2016? I did not know that. I don't care as much fore the time being. Will yell about it closer to next year's draft instead.

Yes. It happened right below where my daughter was sitting. She has a video of it. Evidently, some pretty big Avs fan was giving some shit to some Wild fans, and this blonde woman (also a Wild fan, I gather) sitting directly behind the Avs fan, just stood up and popped him in the back of the head - with zero provocation that is seen on the video. Then mayhem ensues. The woman was arrested, apparently.

The only thing that went wrong this year is that Varlamov didn't have the kind of season he did last year.

He is the one and only reason we looked as good as we did. He gave up a lot of deflating goals early in the season, if we had gone on another 14-1 run to start, we would be well in a playoff picture now.

shooting percentage + save percentage last season was through the roof. That's basically just luck, and this season is basically just the reality. Also, Hejda + Stuart + Guenin + Holden are all below average defensively to varying degrees.

dempsey_k wrote:Well guys, what went wrong this year? We had some key injuries, but that and losing Stastny can't explain it all.

The common wisdom is that Roy is suffering from a his and the organization's disdain for advanced stats.

MacK having the sophomore slump also seems significant. Lando and Duchy have slipped this year.

Terribleness of the defense also not a sufficient explanation imo. A team that has O'Reilly and EJ can't be this bad.

Just bad team hockey. They put together some reasonable pieces, but they just don't fit right together. Like having a box filled with jigsaw puzzle pieces from 4 different puzzles and trying to have a pretty picture in the end.

They need to do another mini-rebuild, because the 2009 one didn't work. They tried to fully rebuild while not stocking draft picks (they traded them instead), and this is what they ended up with. All is not lost, but they are not a single player away.

Well, if they can't resign O'R, the 2009 rebuild will have officially puked, and it's simply time for another one.

If ROR walks for nothing I don't know what to think. The Avs would still have Duchene, EJ, Mackinnon, Landeskog, Varlamov, and that should theoretically be enough to start a winning team. That said, they would have to make some huge moves in FA, which always terrifies me. This would all have turned out better if they would have tanked the last half of this season.

Varly isn't as good as last year, but he was playing out of his mind at a level that's hard to sustain for goaltenders. Especially so playing behind the defense the Avs trot out every night. Last year he made every big save, this year he's only getting 3/4. Despite that I'd still go so far as to call him team MVP.

As would I. He's been really good again this season.

I have a feeling they're playing him into dust at this point though.

Perhaps, but goalies don't really wear with age the way that skaters do. I think Varly can be elite until 35.

Mercifully, it's over. Who are you guys going to pull for now?

In the East, I'm going to hitch my wagon to Tampa Bay. If Ottawa somehow sneaks in, it'll be pretty hard not to pull for them as well.

In the West, honestly I'm pretty ambivalent. Calgary or Nashville, I suppose.

I've been partial to the Blackhawks for a while. Avs usually end up playing some entertaining hockey against them. I'll generally route for an underdog of some sort through the playoffs. My roommate is a Lightning fan and I don't hate them, so I'd have no problem getting behind them.

If LA makes it, both they and Minnesota will likely be 5-8 seeds in the first round. Going to be a couple of great series in that 1st round in the WC. If I'm one of those top 4 teams, I'd much rather play Calgary or Vancouver. Or Winnipeg, if they make it. None of those top teams are going to want any part of Minnesota.

Just shows you how far out they were when they've gone 26-8-3 since acquiring Dubnyk and are still fighting for their playoff lives. Pretty incredible they've made up that gap to begin with.

The Wild have a brutal last 3 games also.

Some team could finish with 99 points and still miss the playoffs this season.

They got outplayed, but still won.

I've been complaining about the beer selection in that place for years. I also openly wonder if they clean their taps.

I'm guessing Chicago will sit some important guys, and the Avs finish with 90 points. 90 points and a Top 10 draft pick. Weird. But here's to a couple more talented kids in the organization.

great year for Iginla, Barrie, and Pickard

good year for Landy, EJ, Varly, Tangs, ROR, Everberg

meh year for Dutch, Mack, Redmond

occasionally surprising but mostly not good year for Stuart and Berracade

everyone else sucked out loud

He was OK. Didn't really impress, but didn't look wholly out of place either. Tough to tell in a single game in which he played mostly against depth lines of a team sitting several of its best players. :-)

I'm evidently in the vast minority, but I thought he played pretty well.

On the Siemens front, it's hard to assess his passing, as he really didn't pass much. When he got the puck, he either gave it right to Barrie, or he skated it to the red line and dumped it in. Which is fine, I suppose. Very safe hockey. But not terribly creative. He had passes available that he didn't execute. First game. No biggie.

Stuart was pretty bad the first twenty to thirty games of the season. Everyone else was too, but I'd be pretty sure #17 was either on the ice for more goals against or a close second to Guenin, who I legitimately cannot believe has played 176 games in the NHL
