Rumor today is Myers, which I can stomach. He plays the right side, but is a top pairing defender with a world of talent. Probably won't happen.

Barrie will move to the left, IMO. EJ and Barrie as a top pair isn't perfect, but it's alright with Hejda and Myers behind them. If Roy can manage his matchups, that can be a good d.

I'm not as negative on that trade as a lot of people are, but I think the Avs can do better.

I like the Myers idea, and if the Avs could pry Edler out of Vancouver, I wouldn't mind that one either. If the trade is for Gardiner, the Avs would have to get something else of significant value, i.e. 1st round pick in 2015.

Yandle isn't perfect, but he is elite at driving possession.

I would rather not get an older defenseman, I would prefer someone under 25. ror is way too valuable to move for a guy who may have three or four years of peak productivity left. Thankfully, the Avs seem to feel the same way

Stastny walks 2014
ROR walks 2015
EJ walks 2016
Varlamov is stuck on a team void of talent by 2017

We're fucked. Sakic is a hack.

Yeah, I've said for awhile that I think he and Roy think like players - UFA is OK. "It's his right".

I think the most likely scenario is that O'R leaves via UFA, ala Stastny.

The 2nd most likely scenario is that O'R brings a similar return as Yandle just did - mid-tier prospect plus a 1st round pick. Or solid NHL player plus a 2nd round pick. Something like that.

The other two scenarios - that O'R resigns or that they get some awesome return for O'R….those aren't terribly likely, IMO.

The rebuild for the 2021 "Mission 16w2" Cup victory (coached by Bourque) is ON.

Yes, I've been calling for Rebuild v2 for awhile now. Or at least Rebuild v1.5. The 2009 rebuild is over, and it failed.

Are we alright with ROR as our top paid player????

I am, but not sure anybody else is.

The Avs have put themselves in the position that they really have no choice. I personally don't have a problem with it, because the dude can play. I think they simply have to pay him what the market will bear. If that makes him the highest paid player on the team, so be it.

However, given EJ is due an extension also, maybe they sign O'R, then immediately sign EJ - then O'R would be the highest paid player on the team for one day.

I don't think Sakic will trade O'Reilly.

He'll either pay him, or he'll walk.

dempsey_k wrote:It won't happen, apparently. At least not by jettisoning O'Reilly. If he's playing at his capability, he's an extremely adept and key player, so that's not something I can really complain about. Obviously we're all just seeing the obvious: he won't sign with us. Glad to be proven wrong, of course.

Honestly, I think it's just that the trade market is so shit right now, and unintentionally management has Luongo'd him by floating trade possibilities while he's not playing as well as last year.

Well, I think the trade market for defensemen is pretty insanely good. Look at what they brought back at the deadline. Every other position is meh. So, the Avs trying to move a non-D for a D, isn't likely to return something terrific.

I agree on the other point. The Avs are trying to rebuild the depth in their organization via options other than drafting, and other than trading roster UFA-to-be vets at the deadline. Good luck, boys.

The Euros the organization has brought in are alright, but eventually you have to draft depth.

To be fair, the_fan is kind of a retard.

Personally I think Roy is a good coach, but the roster sucks. That's on him (and sakic, but id say to a lesser degree.)
