I bet $100 on the Canucks to win the cup.

Horvat signed to a 6 year 5.5m extension. No idea if there is an NTC or NMC. Either way, I think this is actually a very good deal.

I don't think it's a very good deal. It is about the maximum he could have reasonably asked for, especially on that term. Only buys out 2 years of UFA. Meh.

It's about as fair as one can expect and, if his progress can continue, will easily outperform the contract.

How much would he get as a UFA right now? Maybe 6m? He's almost getting paid the Ufa rate despite being cost controlled for the next four years. For the canucks to get any value out of the contract he needs to essentially develop into a 9m player by year 5 of the deal. That would be nice, of course.

It's not likely to be a contract that hurts them in any way but it was pretty much the best contract Horvat could have hoped for. His agent did him very well.

There's also value if the cap rises a decent amount in the next 6 years.

It will, but that is baked into his value.

If he is worth 9M in 5 years, then he will be a 9M player making 5.5, which pays back some of the value you gave him up front. It doesn't matter WHY he is worth 9M, whether it is due to the cap rising, his own improvement, or likely a combination.

If in 4 years he is a 6M player making 5.5M then this ends up being a crap deal for the Canucks. It does not matter what the cap is at that point.

It's the best team that Benning has assembled. Defence, apart from Tanev and Edler, is absolutely atrocious though. I am excited to go to some games and watch the train wreck.

Yep, yep.

I was having trouble with Chrome so was using FireFox for a bit. I made the mistake though of not clearing my cookies and must have had a cookie in FireFox from years ago that they used to ID me as a previously-banned poster.

Pretty stupid that they are so insistent on keeping me banned when they have much more troublesome morons that keep posting there.

Oh well, the site looks like a sun-dried asshole now and the full screen ads somehow breakthrough adblock plus.

You were a paying member too (in fact, why did you have ads then), not to mention a good contributor. Well that sucks... I guess they have to take a "rules are rules" approach otherwise they can't keep re-denying the Jimson Millers of the world.

Why were you banned in the first place again?

Yeah I was.

It's such a stupid thing. When the season starts I'll change my IP, get a new email and use another account for 2 years until they decide to reban me and restart the cycle. I really don't understand what the point of it is.

The idiot Ryan miller's and jimson Hogarth last about 2 weeks before getting banned again but if I've been posting peacefully for 2 years what the hell is the point of banning me again really. The people in charge of those forums are so mindlessly stupid, it's like you are required to excavate half your brain before you are elevated.

idk I made it through okay and have had an account here forever. Same with Jyrki21 and at least a couple others.

KR you could probably make it back there now for good because its a fair bet that they definitely didn't keep old data on banned users through the migration. Would be nice having you back there. Vector you should join again too.

Canucks games are gonna be garbage, so intelligent thoughts/discussions on said garbage team would be appreciated.

There are 20 players in camp that we are almost guaranteed to make the team.

Sven Baertschi, Bo Horvat, Thomas Vanek, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Sam Gagner, Loui Eriksson, Brandon Sutter, Markus Granlund, Alexander Burmistrov, Derek Dorsett, Alex Edler, Chris Tanev, Ben Hutton, Troy Stecher, Michael Del Zotto, Erik Gudbranson, Patrick Weircioch, Jacob Markstrom, and Anders Nilsson.

In a perfect world Sutter, Dorsett, and Gudbranson wouldn't be on the team but this is what we have at the moment.

There are 3 spots left with the following players all fighting for them:

Michael Chaput, Alexis D'Aoust, Darren Archibald, Jayson Megna, Andrey Pedan, Richard Bachman, Brock Boeser, Jake Virtanen, Anton Rodin, Olli Juolevi, Philip Holm, Alex Biega, Ryan White
Michael Carcone

From them the real battle is going to be between:

Michael Chaput
Darren Archibald
Jayson Megna
Brock Boeser
Jake Virtanen
Anton Rodin
Olli Juolevi
Alex Biega

I expect Boeser to make the team out of the gate. I'd like to see them keep Biega and utilize him as either a forward or defenceman depending on the situation. The real battle for the last spot is between Archibald, Virtanen, and Rodin. If they can just get rid of Dorsett they could roll with Archibald and Rodin while letting Virtanen continue his good camp as a front-line offensive force in the AHL. Juolevi should be playing professionally overseas.

Pretty much. It is like trying to get people to come to a party but nobody will come because nobody is going.

I am better off not posting there but I do not have a life and I get pretty bored during the winter. I probably watched fewer than half the games last year but I just like arguing with people and as stupid as half the board is, there are still 5-10 people who are not complete imbeciles and with whom I still enjoy arguing.

vcl is almost certainly correct though in that they probably have gone clean slate with all the banned accounts and such. I thought it was just a UI update but looks like they moved to completely new software, so I doubt all the banning rules were migrated over. This of course means that all the trolls will be back.

As for the season itself, what a shit show. I keep thinking of how sad it is that the Sedins' careers are ending in this way. Looking at our lineup right now makes me want to vomit. We could at least be playing the most of Boeser, Rodin, Goldobin and such but it looks like there will be little room for them because we signed Thomas Vanek and Sam Gagner for some insane reason.

Hey they updated boards, not a fan of the new layout at all but I do appreciate it looking better without the horrible ad layout they had before.

Also, I got pissed and left Boards because they un-stickied my Gillis transaction thread when they had other useless ones they kept. I put a ton of time into that.

Boeser
Biega
Wiercioch
Virtanen
Archibald - no NHL contract

Pedan and a 4th traded for Derek Pouliot (Pittsburgh). I knew he's basically a failed high round pick just from the fact that Benning made this trade.

Weircioch apparently will go on waivers.

Fantasy question. Is Markstrom going to be the #1 goalie over Nilsson this year or will their early play dictate that? I have Nilsson and have way too many backups on my keeper league team.

Barring injury. collapse, or insanity, Markstrom will most likely get the majority of the starts.

There's some logic in that. Nilsson is a Benning signee and Markstrom is from the Gillis era. They've shown an insane dedication to "their" guys.

It begins early.

Think how much he'll learn watching Dorsett from the press box, though. It's like hockey IQ by osmosis.

Also, it looks like the Oilers changed their shade of blue to the one the Canucks should have.

Markstrom was good for the first 3 games but was terrible against Calgary. Boeser and Horvat are, literally, the only reason to watch this team. The only hope is that they fail so miserably and attendance is so bad that the shitty owners are forced to make a change.

This guy has been registered since 2007. In a decade, he has posted only 130 times. This is two of those times.
