I talked about this on Twitter earlier, but yeah. Game 4 of the 2011 WCF is the best Canucks game of all time.

It was the only game I didn't watch because it was May long weekend and I was camping. Heh.

Salo was my favorite Canuck of that era though. I still think he could have helped our PP last year.

Salo was great because everybody in the league was terrified of his shot. He had so much space at the point because nobody wanted to get in front of him. Even when he slowed down significantly he was still effective on the power play for that reason.

Game 6 against New York in 1994 is usually cited as this. I'd also have to think Game 5 against Toronto is up there for the comeback alone.

I also really disproportionately enjoyed the Cowan bra game against Tampa.

Vancouver Canucks forward Chris Higgins was spotted with a walking boot on his right foot on Tuesday at Rogers Arena, after leaving Monday night's preseason opener following a blocked shot.

Canucks assistant coach Glen Gulutzan told reporters Higgins is undergoing more tests to determine the extent of his injury. For what it's worth, Gulutzan also relayed that Higgins said he was feeling better Tuesday than when the injury first occurred.

Adam Cracknell scored the three-on-three overtime winner to lift the Canucks to a 1-0 exhibition win over San Jose in North Saanich, B.C.
Higgins left the game in the second period. He exposed the inside of his right skate while crouching to block a point shot from Sharks defenceman Brenden Dillon, leaving a particularly vulnerable area for injury open to the blast.

Higgins, 32, was projected to begin the season on the Canucks' third line. He posted 12 goals and 36 points in 77 games last season.
If Higgins' injury turns out to be significant, his absence could open a spot for one of the Canucks' young prospects in either Jake Virtanen or Hunter Shinkaruk. Virtanen, 19, was the Canucks sixth-overall pick in 2014; Shinkaruk was drafted 24th overall in 2013.

Sbisa hurt and Hamhuis healthy. Everyone is extremely happy about both of these outcomes.

With the most important pick in his GM career, Benning managed to pick someone who was not healthy when he was drafted, couldn't stay healthy in his first NHL season, and can't stay healthy while needing to play a physical style.

And once Sergachev and Tkachuk blow Juolevi out of the water, we'll be 2/2
on high draft picks paying off richly and totally being worth the entire season!

I at least like the Juolevi pick. He probably would have been my pick in that situation as well.

I don't follow junior hockey, so all I can go by is consensus at the time of the draft, but it just seems like (kind of with Virtanen), Juolevi bordered on the defensible, except that no one else seemed to rank him that high. And that always gives me pause. The hockey scouting establishment may be dumb on a lot of individual things, but as a collective they usually get the most basic projections reasonably close, I think, so I do count that for something.

Part of it is just how much harder it is to get excited by a "solid defenseman with a good mind for the game" versus a player who scores a bunch or even a more dynamic guy like Sergachev seems to be. I mean, in the end I'll take smart over toolsy most of the time, but it's a bit annoying knowing that, despite picking really high, the payoff is still years away, when that isn't necessarily the case for a lot of guys taken around him.

Juolevi was ranked top-7 and the #1 defenceman in most rankings and there was such a small gap between Dubois, Tkachuk, and Sergachev that I could see the justification for taking any of them. Definitely agree with how annoying the pick turned out to be.

For most of the season Chychrun was the #1 ranked defenseman. He fell quite a bit by draft day. Interestingly (or not,) it looks like he'll begin the season in the NHL.

I don't want Juolevi anywhere near this coach or management team. Would rather he be in Finland but that's the least of my Canuck concerns right now.

But I thought last season was some kind of aberration and that the Canucks wouldn't have any injuries this season.

Might be if we didn't also toss in the 33rd overall pick. Whoever we had picked there would likely be one of our top prospects right now. Whether it's Asplund, DeBrincat, Mascherin, etc.

That's the part of this trade that seems to be forgotten about.

It's kind of amazing how Benning has given up draft positions to wind up with a worse team. No second round picks two seasons running, no fourth this year.
