@sportsnetmurph: Zack Kassian did not travel with the #canucks to Columbus. Was slashed on the right arm/hand in 3rd per vs NJ. Update from Willie D later.

@botchford: Talk after Tuesday's game was that Kassian could be gone a few weeks. Not with Canucks on start of 7 gm trip

@botchford: Kassian out 2-3 weeks with finger injury

Bleh. Not good for his development.

-Kassian set to return after the Christmas break.
-Hansen should be good for tonight's game.
-Hamhuis' return date is expected to be January 17th.
-Tom Sestito was given a maintenance day for some reason.

He's being rested so that he's healthy for a trade. I'm guessing Kassian for Marchand.

that was him and the last i remember reading about his injury. pins removed and would be back within a week. still not back.

i guess a two game road trip would've been pointless for him if he gets to rest for some extra days. we have like a 5 game homestand coming up so he's probably looking at one of those games.

bieksa out indefinitely with a hand injury

kind of a blessing in disguise. weber has been better, and corrado has been pretty good too.

hopefully we don't see sbisa in the top 4...

Bieksa has been absolutely awful this year (just from looking at the metrics anyway, I've barely watched any games) so... Good.

you know how bieksa sometimes alternates between good puck rushing bieksa and bad brain fart dumbass bieksa

he's been the latter for the entire half season

He's been on the ice for nearly half of the goals the team has allowed at even-strength. HALF! Bad Bieksa or no, I don't understand how that's even possible.

He was paired with Sbisa for about 15 games. They were hideously bad together. My worry is that they're going to push Sbisa into the top four instead of doing the smart thing and scratching him.

Tanev-Edler
Hamhuis-Corrado
Stanton-Weber

Instead they'll have either Weber, Stanton, or Hamhuis trying to prop up a terrible player.

Stanton seems to have taken a step back and Bieksa has spent a lot of time with him and Sbisa. I think the only way he works is with Hamhuis. Could really add a defenseman. Like the one they dumped in the offseason so they could overpay a goalie.

some great ones here

http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/showplayer.php?pid=992&withagainst=true&season=2014-15&sit=5v5

Sbisa's GF% is 37.3. With Bieksa it's 37.5. When Sbisa is away from Bieksa, it's 37.0. When Bieksa is away from Sbisa, his GF% jumps to 50%.

Sbisa with Weber: 45. Sbisa away from Weber: 32.3. Weber away from Sbisa: 58.3.

At this rate Sbisa is worse than Cam Barker.

Got me thinking - we basically have nobody on defense in terms of prospects. He's younger than Bieksa and Hamhuis and would have provided some nice stop gap time for the organization to draft and develop some young defensemen. And then that money was used on a position where we have Lack, Markstrom, Ericsson, and Demko.

Trader Jim says he wants to add a scorer, like the other 29 teams, but doesn't want to give up picks, and they don't have any desirable prospects. It's good to know they don't have an annoying extra $4m kicking around so that he could actually go do something like that.

for reference, benning was on the radio and said these things

Nuck This wrote:- Thinks Bo's game is going to another level right now, Dorsett a great player to rub shoulders with.

- Doesn't know which goalie he'll go with yet (Lack/Markstrom) but says if he could add a real good young prospect right now he'd look at it

- Kassian is working hard but is snake bitten. Feels his game will turn around. Has all the tools to be an effective player

- Scouting the top prospects skill comp and game tomorrow

- Thinks this draft has some good depth

- Rounds 1 and 2 are strong.

- Watching top prospects comp and game tomorrow

- Hearing real good things about McCann, will watch him play on Friday

- Believes Corrado is here to stay

- Feels the team lacks a goal scorer, will look to aqcuire one if it makes sense. Though, he added Jensen's game is developing and going to another level, so it could come from the backyard.

- Feels the team has depth on defence

- Won't trade prospects or picks, unless it makes sense for the organization going forward

Honest Jim Benning says he's gonna trade one of Lack/Markstrom

Looking to make additions at forward and feeling the defense is good enough is all wrong, IMO.

The real problem is adding anything is the wrong direction. They'll be middling for a long time if their mandate is simply playoff revenue. Other teams aren't going to give you top 6 forwards or top 4 defensemen, unless they are really underachieving or really overpaid. So they should just be continuing to get younger and building from within.

But part of that is allowing those players to compete for spots. How the hell has it taken this long for them to believe in Corrado, with Sbisa playing almost every game? What good is all this young goaltending depth behind a roadblock?

Miller is out for 4-6 weeks, so hey Eddie Lack, here's your chance to cement yourself as the #1 goalie. :)

GGGGGGGGGOALIE CONTROVERSY INCOMING!

One real positive to take away from this, if Markstrom gets a few games and performs real well maybe they can trade him at the deadline for something of value. Something. Anything really.

So if Lack doesn't play better than Miller, will it be because half the skaters are injured?

Well, hopefully he doesn't have a back injury this time around. We know Miller wouldn't have played through that.

Is there any timeline for the Canucks injured players?

Jesus, just looking at Canucks.com shows that there are 7 players on the IR (Richardson, Corrado, Bonino, Bieksa, Miller, Tanev, and Edler). Burrows is the only day-to-day. Any idea what Corrado's illness is? Same horrible flu that everyone else in the Lower Mainland has?
