Benning on goalies: “It’s a good problem to have. We’ll be able to recover draft picks or get other young players in our system.”

Benning on Markstrom: “He’s really been excellent. He looks like a young Ben Bishop. He’s big and he covers the net.”

Lack is gone.

Or Jim thinks he's being sneaky by playing up Markstrom's abilities so some unsuspecting GM will pay a 3rd round pick for him!

Problem is there's only one Jim Benning in the league.

Remember when the Habs traded McDonagh for Gomez? Miller can be the new Gomez, right?

I daydream about that scenario a lot.

If we could move Bieksa for an asset and sign Ehrhoff, I'd be slightly less negative towards Benning.

Bieksa has heart because he's from Ontario and Ehrhoff doesn't because he's a nazi. "No thanks" - Jimbo

Bieskuhhh wrote:Apparently Ehrhoff according to Pitts fans was never utilized on the #1 PP, and was always injured. Which is perfect for us, because that will deflate his value tremendously.

Of course we also have Jim Benning, so this means that Ehrhoff is now too injury-prone and is soft, and unable to handle the tremendous workload required of him to clear Miller's crease.

Or he pays Ehrhoff his actual value, which is Benning 101.

We're getting a Ehrhoff that is 4 years older and pretty busted. He'll still be the 4th best defender on the team...what have you done to us Benning?!

It's way too late to turn the team around, but I'd be very interested to see if Ehrhoff pumps up the Sedins' points or if it was just coincidence that the Sedins had their 100-point seasons when he was around.

Yeah they keep trying to control discussion by not allowing people to post that Benning is a retard. And they are also all surprisingly pro-Benning.

"The Stig" has literally never made any posts that are worth reading. Half his posts are animated gifs and OT shit. He literally has never brought anything to the table. And yet he is consistently allowed to wreck threads by over-moderating the people with whom he disagrees. It's so frustrating to try to read.

And these people always do the same shit -- defend every single member of the Canucks to ridiculous ends, and then the moment -- the moment they are gone, immediately start trashing them. I remember last year this idiot was the biggest defender of Torts, just constantly getting upset with people who criticized him...and then this year he's saying Torts was an idiot and all this. Like fuck off you absolute tool.

It's always the same with her and the rest of them. Constant "wait and see" arguments which are basically arguing for people to shut up and say nothing. They're all nazis.

Dark times ahead.

I can't believe that anyone would not like AV. It was his time to go but the guy was easily the most likeable coach, along with Quinn and Nielson. Someone we should revere and tell campfire stories about the times he had the giggles, claimed that letting a team take 50 shots on Lou was all part of the plan so their arms got tired, and his comedy routines with Sami Salo and injuries.

REMEMBER WHEN WE HAD A COACH THAT WAS EXCELLENT AT LINE MATCHING AND ICE-TIME DISTRIBUTION!! JESUS CHRASIODJASKLDas?

I was just talking about that giggly press conference last night. It's an all-time great.

It's one thing to say a team is so bad offensively you just have to laugh. It's another thing to actually laugh and not be able to stop laughing.

Yeah...I'm struggling with my feelings. The only thing that's keeping me optimistic is watching Bo Horvat develop and the end of the Sedins careers. It makes me so damn angry that Benning, in one season, has made me feel this way.

Pretty much. I was pretty neutral until then, but that's as damning a misstep as a GM could make, forgetting the Miller deal for a bit.

I doubt I could go for another team either, but I certainly see myself falling back to casual fandom, which is kind of a shame since I followed last year's team more closely than any season since probably 2008 or something.

From Deadspin:

In late February, the Vancouver Canucks made a road trip to Boston to play the Bruins. Canucks owner Francesco Aquilini requests Brady meet with his players, and Brady squeezes out a donation to his foundation in return. Aquilini can afford it.

On Feb 11, 2015, at 5:47 PM, Francesco Aquilini wrote:

Hi there I apologize for the late reply. We have been traveling all day to Montana and just getting settled. Gisele is still in brazil so I am just trying to coordinate schedules w her too. I would love to help you and your players out, I also know it can be a very sensitive topic for players/coaches especially when it comes to taking care of their bodies. If you think it would be a great benefit to them it would be my pleasure to help. Why don’t be both sleep on it for a couple days and see how we feel. I wouldn’t want it to be a waste of their time and I also know if the players aren’t open or receptive to making changes then it will be a waste of my time. Let me know how that sounds. I look forward to seeing you soon. Take care

On Feb 20, 2015, at 9:35 AM, Francesco Aquilini wrote:

Tom: Any Looking forward to seeing you and Gisele on Monday for dinner. Do you have a place in mind? On the player note, I spoke to my guys about meeting with you and how they felt about it. I told them that they would need to be open to listen to different ideas otherwise their is no point in meeting. They were thrilled and really honoured that you would make the time for them and said they would love hear your preparation and body maintenance for games. (Don’t let a small problem become a big problem!). They are really looking forward to meeting you. Just from my conversation with you last summer it was amazing how far advanced you are in sports science. They will only benefit from someone like you that is actually doing it as opposed to theory. I’ve spent a lot of time on sports science, you are by far the most advanced I terms of its application. They are really interested in what you have to say on a lot of topics especially someone who has had a long successful career in pro sports and winning so many championships. If your still open to the idea we can meet for an hour before dinner somewhere and then go to dinner from there. There will be 6 guys from our leadership group and Trevor Linden our President and myself. It can be a round table discussion very casual. Cheers!

On Feb 20, 2015, at 10:18 PM, Tom Brady wrote:

Hi there. That sounds good to me. It will be a fun experience for me to share what I know with your players. I have been very fortunate to learn the right information from the best person in the world whom I work with. His name is Alex. He is my body coach and the person who I am blessed to have learned from. I would like to bring him also so he can answer some technical questions if the guys have any. He hasn’t been wrong 1 time in the 11 years we have worked together. We should allow 2 hours as time will fly. As for dinner, there is a great restaurant called Oishii. It is in Boston. We can go with our wives there. I do have one request. I am starting a foundation as it relates to the business Alex and I have together. We want to educate all athletes on sustained peak performance. As you might imagine, we turn kids and parents away who can’t afford to come and get treatment at our center. Sometimes they come for one treatment and are headed in the right direction but can’t follow up because they dont have the financial means. That has been a challenging issue for our center because our body coaches are also care givers and it’s hard to turn people in need away. I would only ask that after our meeting, if you feel like we have helped you and your team, that you would make a donation to our foundation to treat those young athletes who can’t quite afford it. Thanks Francesco I look forward to seeing you

Tom! Dinner sounds great! We would be glad to donate to your foundation! It’s for a good cause. Lets discuss it when I see you. If we could meet with the players say at 3:30 on Monday that should give us enough time before the dinner. I think we are Getting a meeting room at the four seasons. I will confirm with you the location. Say Dinner at 7 pm at Oishii.

Disagree, airing out emails has lead to a ton of great sports moments. Actually just one that I can think of and it's Colin Campbell calling Marc Savard a little fake artist, and it came out when Savard and Greg Campbell were team mates.

Duncan Keith is a Real Canadian Hero™ and I won't have you disparaging his act of premeditated (well-thought-out), violent (gritty), vengeful (justice-flavored), senseless (joie-de-vivre), career-threatening (scrummy intimidation) act of deliberate injury ("answering the bell") on a totally foreign-born (gutless communist) player!

I love the players tribune. Always great reading things like that that you might not hear normally.

Like, Dan Carcillo is basically broken because of Steve Montador's death. Good seeing him try to make sure that doesn't happen again, although it seems like it did with Todd Ewen...
