Willie's benefits probably just kicked in. Tough to let him go now.

What's depressing is I watched the Columbus game and they actually seemed talented compared to us. I mean they have two 30-goal scorers who are 22/23. Watching the Canucks it's just a mish mash of talentless plugs. I think we have the least talent in the NHL.

The Leafs are pretty fuckin' bad. Canucks have good players in the Sedins, Hamhuis, Tanev, Edler, and maybe Borat.

I think it speaks much more to how bad Willie is that the Canucks seem completely incompetent.

Lots of talk about that being Burrows's last game as a Canuck, that he'll be bought out in the off-season.

I don't get it. He has one more year left on his deal. According to the buyout calculator on CapFriendly, we would save 2M in cap space next year and lose 1M in cap space the following year. Burrows isn't worth 4.5M but he isn't so bad that he's actively hurting the team or something. We aren't up against the cap for next year so much that getting 2M in cap space really matters. Just, why? I'd rather we buyout Dorsett who still has 3 more years or Miller who makes 6M.

Buying out Burrows would just be a really shitty end to one of the most memorable players in our history, and to save 2M in cap space for one season? I really hope this doesn't happen. It would be incredibly pointless and myopic and sour me on this regime even fucking more if that's possible.

And of course you have to replace him. And a player like Burrows I would estimate is worth .... about 2M probably. So you buy him out and replace him with a 2M player and gain nothing. Just what the fuck,

I'm with you, KR. Unless there are assets coming back it makes zero sense to just buy him out for the sake of it.

What a fucking idiot this guy is.

I can't believe that this regime targetting Dorsett and Prust as their "mentors." Dorsett gets ejected for being an idiot baby and Prust sent to the AHL after throwing a tantrum because he was scratched. These are the guys they want fostering the next group of players.

Not Burrows though.

Pretty strange with no playoffs but I guess this is the European style of sports or something.

Ya, there's zero reason to buyout Burrows. He still has a positive influence on the team and he is only slightly overpaid on an expiring contract. If anyone but Benning was the GM it would never have been brought up.

However if they can get a decent asset for him, like they did with Bieksa, it wouldn't be the worst thing. I really hope he retires a Canuck though.

The numbers are basically inarguable. It is a dumb move unless he is having some terrible impact on the team. So I fully expect them to do it, in the name of "giving young players a chance." (Even though there won't actually be an added young player on the roster. They will just make room for all of our "foundational" tweeners).

I suppose it's possible they do manage to simply trade him (I'm sure whatever reservations Burrows has had about waiving his NTC in the past have dissipated with this clown show in charge), but would almost assuredly have to retain salary, again making the numbers questionable.

I'm not really ever in favor of a buyout when there is only one year left on a deal, including with David Booth. Just seems like overkill.

Booth was at least a compliance buyout, so all of his cap hit was removed. If we could get all of Burrows's 4.5M cap hit off the table, then the numbers would make more sense.

It would actually be funny if they went to buy him out thinking it will clear the entire salary off the cap, like it did when they bought out Booth. And then the NHL allows them to just shoot themselves in the foot because Gilman works for them now.

Milan Lucic is a better Derek Dorsett. I would hate to have both on the team, and I sure as shit would hate to have his garbage character around the young players. Particularly Virtanen, who seems like he could be prone to shitty influences.

Granlund resigned for 2 years and $900,000 average.

I can't bring myself to hate the deal but I find Granlund completely useless.

Benning sure loves his reclamation 3rd/4th liner projects.

Our team is littered with them.

Trading Shinkaruk for another was a stupid call. Drance pointed out that every line Granlund was on for the flames, he made them worse. Even Monahan and Hudler. Shinkaruk at a bust costs us nothing, Shinkaruk at a win would've given us possibly 2nd line winger depth.

Granlund at best gives us third line center, but we already have Horvat/Sutter for that. At worst? Another 4th line plug to go along with the rest of this barge. And he traded for this.

Can't wait to see him at the draft lottery. Is it hosted by TSN? Would love to see it live, and watch Benning try and talk to the wrong GM of the 1st overall pick to make a deal for it because we end up picking 6th with our luck.

Also can't wait until next year (or the one after next) where the Canucks draft 1 or 2 spots lower than they should because of the expansion teams getting a free pick up high.

My current coping mechanism is thinking about how Desjardins would deploy Matthews with Dorsett to learn the defensive side of the game real good.
