On the one hand, it's a big gamble to hope one of Bonino/Rakell/Holland can turn into a consistent scoring threat this year. But on the other hand, we need to find out if they're capable of becoming a 2C (especially Rakell and Holland). I don't think Bones is or will ever be a 2C on a contender. Holland's advanced stats were also better than his last year.

Our top 6 is way too young though, Pears and Getz are really the only proven top sixers right now. We need to bring in another forward I think.

Well, you never know what a player's got until you give him a chance to show it. The bad thing is they could turnout to be total disaster's in their "new role." So, I do think the Ducks should try to get another veteran forward for top 6, hopefully center if they can. Hiller or Sbisa for a top 6 forward or 2nd line center sounds good to me.

For the quality of 2nd line center I think the Ducks are looking for, I think it's more like Hiller, Sbisa, and DSP/2nd round pick (Maybe even a 1st rounder instead of a 2nd rounder, for the right guy). I think that's going to be the sort of package Murray will want to ship off to fix the problem for 2nd line center or a legitimate defensive partner for Beauchemin. Let's not forget about that. Souray is a stop-gap (and I'm being generous, at that).

I really think the biggest needs for this team going into this offseason were finding a legitimate and capable partner for Beauchemin as well as a bonafide 2nd line center. Neither of which have been addressed. Nor do I think they will be. Murray seems insistent on using washed-out stop-gaps as annual solutions until the youth can find their stride. I don't like the strategy at all.

Penner = 2nd line center??? Does anyone else think that the Ducks signing Penner means the Ducks know Selanne isn't coming back?

No.. Murray went out and got Penner because he and Getzlaf think they can re-create some of the chemistry from the Cup year. I think there's a good chance it will work. And if it doesn't, at least it isn't an expensive long-term investment like Souray and Allen. Very smart signing.

Also, the Ducks aren't a cap team. They're a cash team. They still have over $9 million to spend even though they've only got about $5.5 million in cap room. Granted, Murray won't spend the entire $9 million he has left. I imagine he'll lock up Palmieri after Selanne makes his decision and that might be all she wrote for any other significant moves before the season begins.

In other news, I'm going to be doing fantasy hockey again this year, my fourth time. My previous team names were "Jimmy Two-Times", "You're Damn Right, Sweden!", and "Selanne and Cheese." That last one was corny on purpose bc it was the Fansided league with all the NHL writers. But, I like to use either famous movie references or popular sports stories as the basis for a fantasy team name. For example, I've used ConVicks, Plaxico's Shooting Instructor, Belichek's Film Rental for some of my fantasy football teams. I figured it would be cool to discuss some possible funny fantasy hockey team names for the upcoming season. I suspect many will be created about Kovalchuk. So, any ideas?
