Net Reputation / Reputation Deficit

Post #1 by Boring Choice #2 » Fri Apr 21, 2017 8:38 am

I decided to look at the top 100 all reputationally involved posters in terms of Reputation given / received and calculate the net reputation (Rep Received - Rep Given).

The mean net rep is -5.93 -3.29, while the median is +4.00. the mode, coincidentally, is also +4.00.
The range of net rep goes from a selfish Malthus of +162.00 to a reputationally slutty Cunning Stunt of -775

Discuss.

FAKE NEWS!

The real news is who leads positive rep.

This is just a list going from most to least assholish poster.

Going over the list, you can't be surprised to see that mumu, AD, Chim, Greg, the neanderthal end of the leafs fans spectrum are all dicks.

But mcphee? Really?

mcphee is just beloved, while incapable of figuring out how the technology works on the other end of the scale. there are always outliers in data sets.

I'm sorry, but your algorithm is all wrong. It gives equal weight to rep received and to rep withheld basically. Rep received is a positive thing. It means some (likely) tighwad likes what you said enough to rep it. Rep withheld just means you are an asshole. Well, it could mean you are selective, but really it just means you are an asshole especially if you are way out from the mean.

I say you score 3 points for rep received and only deduce half a point per rep given that is more than 20% above mean.

it's really distance from 0 that you want to look at. for instance, i'm a pretty well balanced poster. sure, i could give more rep away and look like a slut, but i could also pander for rep more and look like a leafs broad.

You can make stats say anything.

This is stupid.

You can't catch the essence of a poster with a rank.

You're stupid.

rep received and rep given are neither positive or negative. it is how they are viewed together that matters. i think distance from zero is more appropriate, or some measure of deviation from zero or something.

this thread is for research and discussion purposes. i'd like to take the stats of beloved posters and compare it to despised posters and determine the behaviour before determining which measure of rep is most appropriate.

my only conclusions from extracting this data was that people giving away rep freely are sluts and those receiving rep without receiving back are generally more selfish.

i've made little other conclusions.

the plan was to categorize posters and analyze the subsets. i'm not the poster jumping the gun here.

for reference, these are the categories in which i am placing posters

a - generally beloved throughout the broads
b - generally beloved withing their subset of broads
c - neither really loved nor hated either within their subset or throughout the broads
d - generally unliked outside their subset
e - generally unliked both throughout the broads

At the least, you need to "equalize" the numbers by prorating to total posts during the rep era (TPDRE). The TPDRE adjusted ratio is what you want, not gross number difference. This is so amateurish, God!

Then, we need to dispel this fallacy that rep received and rep withheld is of equal value.

some more advanced reputation stats coming soon:

RGPP - Rep Given per Post
RRPP - Rep Received per Post
NRPP - Net Rep per Post
RG% - Rep Given as a percentage of total rep (given and received)
RR% - Rep Received as a percentage of total rep
DIOW - Days Inactive (> One Week)
DIOW+1 - Days Inactive (> One Week) + 1 [for use in denominator]
LF - Likeability Factor (a=1.00, b=1.50, c=2.5, d=4.5, e=8.5) [e.g. c = b + ( ( b - a ) x 2 ) ] ... starting point before a was 0.5
ALF - Active Likeability Factor (DIOW+1 x LF)

again, early advanced stats are limited by the data available. if you want to start your own stats where you analyze each meta-rep event, please go ahead and do so.

Okay, so I have a #fancystat which appears to work and determine the level at which people are posting, which I have called "PostingReputation Level".

RL = (RG * RR%) / ALF

Following post contains the results.

or in detail:
RL = (Rep Given x (Rep Received / Total Rep) ) / (Likeability Factor x (Days Inactive in Excess of One Week + 1) )

I sense that most of the enthusiastic repping is happening in the team forums, and I wouldn't be caught dead there.

So not looking forward to Beaker quoting NRPP out of context as if it meant anything only to prove a stupid point he's trying to make.

Someone tell me what my xREP would be if I stop trolling the team forums. Need to do a cost/benefit analysis to decide how I can get my stats up before I get an offer from Jonesy to start posting on boardz again.

I'm at a point that I can increase my rep level by a noticeable percentage point by either giving or receiving rep somewhere in the order of 0.5-1.0% per rep point given or received, with rep given being more valuable than received.

it's amazing that someone like cao can go up almost 60% by giving one rep, but only 6.5% for receiving rep.

I think it's more like the old adage that it is always better to give than to receive.

If the rep reflects it, it must be so.
