If we're going to lump donairs in with doners then we might as well just lump western "Chinese" food in with "Chinese" Chinese food.

Next yers'll be telling me that cheesy bread and garlic fingers are the same thing. :donger:

No pickled turnips, no Tzatziki, no Hummus, et al.

Greasy Beef (it may be accompanied by cheese and/or greasy Brothers pepperoni only) only
Tomatoes and Onions only
Donair Sauce only

All on a softened pita/naan bread. See, nothing like a dünor. :bettman:

Authentic like they're copying a 50 year old bastardized eastern Canadian version of a Turkish dish that was bastardized by Lebanese and Syrian immigrants to Canada arriving here pre WW1?

Cool. It's a date.

although many people claim to have originated the döner kebab concept, i'm sure no one will ever know where it came from exactly. i'm guessing some shepherd / group of shepherds in a hill somewhere were the first to think of roasting meat on a stick, turning it for an even cook, and then shaving it off into a piece of bread to eat.

I remember uncle buck said that the sauce is different for a donair vs the rest. Something about condensed milk having to be used.

That is a fair categorization of both. Or rather middle-eastern inspired sandwiches. I don't think anyone in the middle east has ever made or tasted a donair (as described by the people in this thread).
