If the talk show hosts, Democrats and other celebrities are serious about stricter gun laws then they should bring it up on a regular basis and not wait for a massacre. What they are doing can be characterized as political opportunism and publicity seeking.

After a period of mourning Trump will start tweeting stupid shit and we will be back to normal.

Chris Murphy, who comes from the Sandy Hook district, talks gun control non-stop. The votes do not exist for stricter gun control ... that's the depressing reality.

It's all the NRA.

Among Republicans:

- 89% support not allowing the mentally ill to own or purchase firearms
- 82% support barring someone on a no fly or watchlist from purchasing or owning
- 77% support background checks
- 54% support banning "assault" style weapons
- 56% support the creation of a national database to track gun sales
- 47% support banning high capacity magazines
- 70% are against concealed carry without a permit
- 49% are against shorter wait times for purchase

It's all the NRA and not the voting public that makes putting in some stricter gun laws impossible.

I mean you aren't going to get support to ban hand guns tomorrow, but you could get something passed if not for the fact the NRA goes crazy on any restriction.

The problem is that normal people don't factor in gun control when deciding their vote, but gun nuts do - and they show up to vote in primaries, regularly make donations, and don't hesitate to phone or write their representatives whenever gun control is in the news.

By "votes," I mean the votes to pass legislation ... not public opinion, which, by and large, would support more stringent gun control measures.

I got that.....

My entire point is that it is one overfunded lobby group that is influencing those congressional votes, not the will of the actual population.

Also, it offends God. You'd think that an odd thing for an entity that created the entire universe to be offended about, but that is why He/She/It is God and we are not.

I would have preferred Biden as the Dem candidate. but Clinton had done much work behind the scenes to get that nomination and would have been difficult to dislodge. Biden would have needed to start campaigning earlier but his son's death in 2015 put that off. In hindsight I also think Biden would have been better to go against Trump and would have beaten him (fewer negatives than Clinton).

But I also think the Trump win will do much to undermine the Republican lead in Congress. With their legislative failures, the Republicans have been outed as dysfunctional and the Dems have a chance to make gains in both Houses hopefully before Trump starts blowing shit up around the world (to get his base to rally around him as a wartime President, you just know this loser/moron is thinking about it)

In Feb of 2013, Obama sent them to set up a drone base to help French forces in Mali. So I assume they were protecting the bases perimeter. I also think they are giving ISIS credit in a way to mask that it could have damn well been local groups not affiliated with AQ/ISIS which would bring into question: is it legal for us to be there? and it would give a justification as to why we are there.

On February 20, 2013, the last elements of a deployment of approximately 40 additional U.S. military personnel entered Niger with the consent of the Government of Niger. This deployment will provide support for intelligence collection and will also facilitate intelligence sharing with French forces conducting operations in Mali, and with other partners in the region. The total number of U.S. military personnel deployed to Niger is approximately 100.

The recently deployed forces have deployed with weapons for the purpose of providing their own force protection and security.

NFL teams going to introduce rules requiring players to stand during anthem because of dropping ticket sales? Heard that on radio this morn.

Damn you Trump! Sly devil saw that NFL fans are mostly Nascar fans and he'd win the "culture war". Maybe next step, they can cut players salaries down to minimum wage and force them to play in arenas for the amusement of the Billy-Rays and Billy-Jims out there. Maybe introduce lions and panthers and jaguars and bears into the field to chase the players around. Oh wait, they already do that.

I would look a little closer on polling on that front ... also, NASCAR is primarly based out of the Southeast, and that has never been strong NFL territory comparatively speaking. SEC football is king down there. NFL economic slippage predates all of this a bit. To an extent, I think the NFL is suffering from oversaturation and a league/roster dynamic where we see a lot of shit games.

I am not convinced the NFL is going to take any firm action, though I think numerous owners would like to. Any rule like that would almost certainly require NFLPA sign off, and that seems unlikely ... and it also seems like it would pour a dump truck of gasoline onto the situation.

By nascar, I meant big white dudes that drink alot of beer from their helmets (apologies to those I offend, I love you all). I thought about the "nascar is a southern thing", but decided it was a good enough approximation for my rant (i get caught everytime I do that). They may or may not like nascar, but a significant portion of NFL fans would fall on the Trump side of his little "culture war". In the end, all he wants is political capital with this demographic.
