I guess the Trump administration is worried that no one knows that the United States has nuclear weapons? Because sure why not.

So Chris Wallace on Fox this morning laid into Kayleigh Mcenany about questioning reporters' intentions regarding churches. Sure, that was something.

Being less covered, however, is that she also put up slides instructing reporters what some good questions to ask would be. Such beauts included, "Why was Michael Flynn UNMASKED (bold) by Joe Biden, Susan Rice and others?" one slide read.

Funniest part of this is that Michael Flynn’s name was never masked in the first place.

Above is a chart showing how Americans view the Covid response of their own and other countries' governments. I find it remarkable that nearly 50% rate the US response as Good-to-Excellent, and give the UK and even higher rating.

30% rating S.Korea's response as Poor-to-Fair is equally astonishing.

The US death-per-million rate is not as high as people think. The problem is that it should not be anywhere near that rate and would have been better with a quicker response and not outright denials and claims of hoaxes.

Canada''s rate doesn't scream "Excellent" to me either - though I would rate the BC government's actions very, very highly.

Brazil is going to be a goddamn disaster by the time this is over. It was probably going to be bad anyway, but it has of course been exacerbated by Bolsonaro, a manifestly evil man who makes Bibi look like a reasonable politician.

Please elaborate, Mog. I mean, we all know those people still stuck out on the cruise ship in SF probably died weeks ago, but perhaps you are referring to the millions of undocumented people in the country? Or maybe those that were simply not tested but stubbornly died anyway?

Whatever are you getting at?

Twitter just today allowed Trump to tweet a murder conspiracy against Joe Scarberia which is a complete lie and denied by the victim's husband.

I think that is why Twitter implemented the fact checking today. They wrote a pseudo-apology to the victim's widow, only for Trump to double down on the conspiracy theory minutes before the apology went out.

Love him or hate him, Tommy Friedman's piece today was fairly fun and self-explanatorily titled, "Mike Pompeo Is the Worst Secretary of State Ever."

I don’t know much about Pompeo’s time as head of the C.I.A., except that he was notorious for spending long hours at the White House sucking up to Trump. But I do know he has been the worst secretary of state in American history, without a single diplomatic achievement.

Not even I make bluffs that empty. And on the day they pass 100,000 deaths no less. It should also be noted that today the editorial boards of such intellectual, liberal bastions as the New York Post, Washington Examiner, and WSJ absolutely slammed him for his recent online behaviour.

Looks like there's been a fatal stabbing in the Trump 2020 Campaign. Poor Brad Pascale.

In the hours after Monday's Memorial Day holiday, President Donald Trump's top White House adviser executed a DC-style coup that would have made the swampiest Washington veterans proud.

The move by Jared Kushner, which was approved by the president, placed Bill Stepien as the campaign's new de facto campaign manager while letting Brad Parscale keep the title too.

It's a shake-up that capped two months of sliding in the polls for Trump that culminated in a rocky few weeks, which ended with Trump blasting Parscale in a meeting last week, asking why he was losing to "Sleepy Joe" Biden, according to seven Trump advisers and Republicans close to the 2020 reelection campaign interviewed by Insider
.

Well, apparently and unbeknownst to me, President T was referring with his Cold Case to Joe S's aide dying in the early 80s. I'd not heard of this, but have read a little now.

What I don't understand is how Joe Scarborough cannot just sue him for libel/defamation. Surely it would be an easy case versus a bully and his pulpit?

Can't sue the president.

The supreme court disagreed in clinton vs jones

The president has no civil law immunity for acts before he was president or acts that are unrelated to work in the office of president.

Tweeting libel against a news anchor doesnt seem related to his work as president to me.

For previous averages of pneumonia deaths go here.
https://wonder.cdc.gov/controller/datarequest/D76

“Surrounding states are also seeing death counts several times greater than normal: *
Indiana: 1,832 COVID-19 deaths; 2,149 pneumonia deaths (five-year average of pneumonia deaths in this time perio: 384) *
Illinois: 4,856 COVID-19 deaths; 3,986 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 782) *
Tennessee: 336 COVID-19 deaths; 1,704 pneumonia deaths (five-year average: 611) *

The actual deaths are at least 30k more than the reported numbers.

Yeah, something tells me this SCOTUS isn't going to take that precedent as binding in this case ...

Now, the interesting play for Scarborough (given the current polling), is to wait until Trump is out of office and then file the libel suit. That being said, I doubt it would stick in this case. Trump is certainly walking right up to libel (and you can connect the dots), but what he's said thus far likely falls short of actual libel. Largely because he's couched it in the language of "someone should look into this stuff" type of thing (e.g., opening a cold case).

Roberts hates going against precedent so i do think theyd rule against trump on the issue of whether or not he can be sued.

You are right though in that by couching it as he does, it likely wouldnt succeed on proving libel.

Eh, Roberts likes punting, too. Pretty sure he'd figure out some BS argument to effectively not send Trump into a court room (while in office), while simultaneously not creating precedent going forward.

All of this is a bit of a waste of time conceptually, though. If you're really invested in suing Trump, I would do it after he's out of office. In many respects, that is one of the big looming questions. Are their dormant investigations that theoretically could result in indictments for Trump looming on the other side of his time in office?

Trump could easily claim that his Twitter account is related to his work as President. Heck, wasn't that precedent already set when they told him he couldn't block people on Twitter any more?

Some of the statements on his twitter account are related to his work as president. I wouldnt dispute that at all.

Comments he makes as part of a personal grudge against a morning show news anchor? Id argue those arent part of the work.

Its like anything. He can golf with a world leader or with a high ranking ceo and claim its part of the job. He can also golf on his own and that isnt.

This Supreme Court will not judge Trump's "good faithed" questions as libel.

Thats the harder issue, I said as much above.

I don't think Craig's statement that "you can't sue the president" is correct though. I think Roberts would come down on the side of respecting the precedent from the Paula Jones case on that issue.

It's established that his Twitter account is a medium of communication from the president to his constituents. You're overthinking this, they'd reach that conclusion almost immediately.
