Big drop in Shopify for a very strange reason. I figured some bad news happened when I checked over lunch, but really it sounds like someone trying to drive the price down. It reminds me of when Jim Cramer was just breaking into prime time. He could single handily move share prices on companies because he had that much power, almost a cult like following. I'm sure he'd buy the week before, then put a "Strong Buy" rating on said company the next week on his show and watch his gains be made. My personal favorite was when a company was such a strong buy he used the "beep beep" sound effect from a large truck backing up, representing him loading the large truck full of stock. I liked Jim Cramer, he created a good persona and profited from both it and I'm sure his slightly slippery stock buying and pumping (and dumping).

Now here's the article out on Shopify today: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-10-04/shopify-tumbles-as-citron-calls-company-get-rich-quick-scheme

I read it quickly at lunch, but I find this hard to believe and article like that could drop a company 10 points. Citing Shopify paying bloggers and advertising on their site about people setting up an online business using their software that now those people are financially stable and getting rich? Seems like small potatoes to me.

People are paying for the future in these hard to tame tech stocks so saying a company isn't worth 11 billion seems weird to me. It may not be, but it is when you do that math on shares out versus share price. Is Google, Twitter and Facebook worth what they're "worth" today? I don't know, but that's the price.

This seems like someone who already shorted the stock and is sweating as the short squeeze pressure is happening as this stock just keeps going higher. Maybe I'm missing something, but the entire article seems petty and I'm kind of surprised it's legal to put it out there to influence the share price.

I went to Citron's site to see who this company was. It actually seems it's just a guy who isn't as good of an actor as Jimmy Cramer. I'm surprised that this video took a billion dollar bite out of a company in one day.

This guy must have really lost a lot of money shorting the stock over the last year. He's downright mad lol.

Wish I could buy at these levels.

isn't that a bit of an overreaction? the leafs loss against a team that can play defence and the habs haven't been good all season. it's nothing to worry about.

I’ve been mostly waiting on the sidelines since last november while everybody got rich. Just like studies show tends to happen when you time.

All I ask for is for the world to (almost) implode so I can buy equities cheap and then for the world to recover so that I can get richer.

Is that too much to ask???!

I mean, it’s fine if the information is all publicly available. Such as what you may share with your friends on an obscure thread on an obscure board about a semi-obscure sport.

Well shopify climbed all the way back to my break even. Still find it hard to believe that guys video moved a company that much. I guess that's what happens with momentum. Hard and soft stops and trigger stops and down she goes. Wish I could have bought at $115.

Anyway, that's where I am, semi-long that's what she said, but won't stay long untouched. I like to go in and out TWSS, and try and time the runs a little to add a few % points to the long hold. Overbought and oversold drops are failry easy to see, as long as they aren't new trends, and just short term corrections.

Earnings coming up for shopify, and they've actually hit the ball out of the baseball stadium for the last two years, so I guess at some point people will maybe frown on them for only hitting third deck homers. That's the story of these crazy early growth companies. We'll see what the market thinks, but they have almost set the bar too high. I'm a bit nervous.

I'm 2/3 into SHOP and 1/3 Richelieu. I know I keep saying it, but everyone with a long term account should own some RCH.

edit: Hello Arturo, got any hawt tips? Call me on my land line.

any recommendations on a stock/portfolio tracker.
I have been using Trade Trakker, but they just lost their agreement with their market service provider so no more updates.

Don't know what to use now. I was a Yahoo portfolio guy 15 years ago then switched to Google. Never loved google as their news feed was a mess, but yes today it's a non-option after the change. We'll have to find something.

CBS Marketwatch was great back in the day too.

Actually, Arturo I was using tmxmoney to watch IRD back when I was in it. It's a canadian site and what I liked about it with a small trading IRD is that I could see the last 25 or so trades and see what kind of blocks were trading.

It has a portfolio page that you can set up, so I may move there. I'm going to check it out now that google is gone.

I think they're updating the cosmetics on all their services. They probably realized they weren't getting anything out of finance, so instead of updating everything, they cut it down to the basics.

Total guess though, who knows their actual thought process.
