I have heard and read a little about it previously, but largely ignored it. I am curious what the average age of everyone involved is. I suspect you have some adults (with agendas) backed by small armies of 14 year olds ... and we can guess which side has numbers. I mean, are we really shocked that an entertainment medium with a heavy dose of teenage boys has a fair amount of misogyny floating around in it?

Anyone that has ever played an online game with mics live knows full well that the video game crowd is a cesspool of stupid, and the commentary heads towards egregious quickly. I am always amazed at the casual racism within the CoD community.

I haven't played a video game since NHL '97, but I was unaware that there were lady videogamers.

It started with a girl game developer breaking up with a dude that decided to post on multiple forums a very long rant about the girl and how she's manipulating guys in the industry with sex and how she's a whore and obviously, 4chan being what it is, decided it would be fun to threaten the girl, make her personal information public and basically, react like a 14 year old child being said no by a girl.

Sarkeesian got implicated when she tried to defend the girl.

An ever since, any boy who's ever been told no by a woman in his life has jumped on the bandwagon (mostly remaining anonymous though, just in case such a thing would ever prevent them from having sex for the rest of their life).

Lots of quality human beings in there, friends.

Edit: Zoe Quinn is the name of the girl. And obviously, it's now about way more intricate stuff than just petty revenge from an ex.

But until then they need to use misogyny and concealed weapons as ego boosters, to compensate for their sexual frustration.

So who's the genius that thought allowing concealed weapons at a university wouid be a good idea? Fuckin' Utah.

Meh. I find it hard to get worked up about it. The average 14 year is a total piece of shit but most of them grow up to be decent human beings.

I don't know what the feminists actually think they're going to achieve. That they're going to convince 14 year olds that misogyny and racism isn't funny? Good luck with that.

If you do not cancel her talk, a Montreal Massacre style attack will be carried out against the attendees, as well as students and staff at the nearby Women's Center. I have at my disposal a semi-automatic rifle, multiple pistols, and a collection of pipe bombs. This will be the deadliest school shooting in American history and I'm giving you a chance to stop it.

It accumulated into mushroom cloud proportions yesterday when some GamerGate kiddo threatened to do a mass shooting at Anita Sarkeesian's speech in Utah, and Utah authorities said having guns in her conference was an American constitutional right. Then Seth Rogen called Adam Baldwin an idiot and sent him dick sandwich pictures or something.

My highschool did a commemorative thing every year for that where they put scotch tape outlines on the floor in the halls for each of the victims. Reactions ranged from "Why the fuck are we doing this?" to "Oh my God! You stepped inside the tape! You MONSTER! Have some respect for these heroes!"

I think the "gamer" side had a point, but there are crazies and the other side is happy to focus on them, dehumanizing the people who actually have a substantive disagreement. You can be opposed to sexist attacks and threats on women while still believing that "social justice" is not the primary goal of the gaming community. Gaming is. If you created a great game built around testicle crushing then lots of people would play it. If you built a crappy game around mistreating women then most gamers wouldn't play it. But when the reading public for these magazines suggest that they're spending too much time focusing on sexism and not enough on games then they all get accused of being sexist, and the magazines declare that gamers are dead. And they have a valid point that the press has disdain for the community they ostensibly serve. There are many non-sexist socially awkward gamers. But the press seems to pass judgment on the socially awkward and categorized them as icky.

In some ways its an extrovert/introvert thing. The extrovert say the introverts are acting inappropriately. The introverts ask what rules they broken and who made them. And the extroverts reply "the rules of social society" which equates to "our rules" and if you don't understand them by now then I'm not explaining them. I'm not talking about the aggressive behaviour of some. I'm talking about the geeky awkward "not smooth" behaviour that can make a girl feel "uncomfortable". As though anyone has a right to never feel "uncomfortable". It could be as simple as offering gifts in the game world. Or attempting (poorly) to strike up a conversation.

As usual, the extremists on both sides are sucking the oxygen from the room.

That's basically Raiden if we made male characters how we make female characters. It's impossible to push back against that point. Therefore isn't it reasonable to say gaming is the perfect venue to fight a culture war?

Video games don't exactly have blatant pussy shots, Demps. We basically do portray males in video games in much the same way we do women; caricatures of physical perfection with grossly exaggerated features. If you look at the Mortal Kombat men as a whole there's loads of massive biceps, huge pecs and shirtless men.

Why are boobs submissive?

Also, most girls in games are pretty jacked too. Especially if Mortal Kombat is the example we're working with.
