what happened to the days when political leaders could assault people in public and be lauded for it instead of being a topic of gossip and innuendo?

If elected as Leader of the Rhinoceros Party of Canada, I promised to:

  • Enact legislation recognizing Canada's new national animal: the cheese curd
  • Force a de-merger of the Conservative Party of Canada
  • Promote higher education by building taller schools
  • Appoint Senate seats according to proportional representation
  • Abolish the Monarchy but retain the Governor General
  • Make the AFN Leader de facto Governor General
  • Give the Governor General a cool Davy Crockett hat
  • Legalize all drugs
  • Tax religion
  • Ban Coors Light and ScotiaBank
  • Enact a $7.8 million individual salary cap, much like after the NHL lockout in 2005
  • Allow every Canadian to vote in the 2020 U.S. Election
  • Trade P.E.I. for Delaware
  • Change national anthem to a bunch of Inuit throat singing
  • A Giant Tiger™ fidget spinner for every Canadian Citizen

The NDP exists to lead the brown people, not to be led by them. Only a wealthy, white, career graduate student like Niki Ashton is capable of being the true voice of both Canada's ethnic minorities and its working class.

Electing a friendly leader is the worst thing the NDP could do right now IMO. Mulcair should have been allowed to stay on, but failing that, someone similarly angry and sharp-tongued is necessary. Progressives sick of Trudeau won't need more good vibes, they will need someone fierce to cut through his bullshit.

Also, I don't think there is a viable political space left of Trudeau right now. He benefits from being contrasted with Trump and the previous Conservative government and from the economy being solid.

This is a throwaway NDP leader.

I'm sure Jagmeet Singh is a nice man, but he does seem more comfortable spouting platitudes than he does outlining workable socialist policies. I said the exact same thing about Trudeau. (replacing the word 'socialist' with 'liberal' in his case, obviously)

Similarly angry to Mulcair? Ugh, Mulcair is completely charmless.

Not convinced "angry" works with Canadians. Let's see what Singh can do.

The worst case scenario would be to ditch their next leader as quickly as they did Mulcair. No NDP leader is ever a hit in the first election. Or second, for that matter.

If the NDP has any sense at all, they will find someone with promise and stick with that person for a minimum of three elections. That's a big part of the recipe for partial success shared by Broadbent and Layton.

If that's Singh, I hope he still fits the bill in 2023 and 2027, because that's when we're really going to need him.

The NDP should pick someone who can outlast Trudeau (not necessarily try to beat him next election). Just a good stable, likeable, smart showing over the next 5-6 years until Trudeau/Liberals get stale.

At that time, both the conservatives and the NDP will gnaw away at the Liberal support. Sheer (Scheer? Cheer? Sheare?) is a complete dud, the cons will surely have another leader in 3-5 years (if they don't they're morons).

Andrew Scheer is a bashful vagina, while Trudeau and Singh are both utter bellends.

Liz May seems like a pretty qualified public servant compared to all this. I will probably vote Green unless it's Ashton or Angus on the orange side. I am not interested in this self-examining, post-Trudeau NDP at all. The NDP should keep moving left like it always has.

If anything right now, the NDP should see the writing on the wall and reach out to its socialist/feminist/environmentalist wings. This is not the time to elect some fucking Andrea Horwath stand-in, who longs for a means-tested Old Age Security program.

Your use of the term 'vagina' in a derogatory manner has not been approved by the Equality, Enlightenment, Ethics and Social Justice Committee of hockeybroads.com ("EEESJC"). Your proposal does not meet the highest standards of progressiveness and inclusion this website expects from its members.

You may appeal this decision to the Overarching Review Board ("ORB") within 15 days of notification.
