I cannae wait to hear some of the blurbs about “the changing nature of work”, one of the alleged themes of the G7 this weekend.
Also, let's keep this thread about Galchenyuk's on-ice performance, development and value and NOT bring in his personal life or race.

That's not bad then. The age of voters seems to be dropping. I faintly remember the first time I voted in 2008 it was nothing but people in their 60s and 70s but every election since the age drops. Its about time we get represented and pandered to a bit.

AD wrote:That's because you're a horrible person, D. An NDP minority is clearly the best of those choices for Ontario.

As for everyone else outside of Ontario, at least with you electing Doug Ford, you can be the laughing stock of the country for a couple of years and possibly the world for a few days.

I just want a reasonably responsible, fiscally prudent government that doesn't spend money like a drunken sailor. All three main parties are promising to do just that.

How difficult is it to say that the province should live within its means. You know approximately how much tax revenue you can generate using current rates. Find ways to spend less by not throwing money at pet projects. Keep spending at similar rate without funding more shit in the future. Then if you have a surplus, reduce the debt. Once the debt is gone, then consider tax cuts and possible spending increases.

Regardless, the candidates in my riding are all mindless automatons who will do whatever their parties tell them to do. My decision is between a phd bureaucrat for the municipal government, a former mp who shouldn't have been elected the last time and was a complete failure in parliament, and an elementary school teacher who is a socialist. I might just vote for myself.

I find D is so cute when he thinks he votes for a member of parliament rather than a party. D, technically, the Queen is still in charge too, but practically, I think who is the prime minister and cabinet is what matters.

Also, fiscal responsability is all nice and good and fine to debate in an ordinary context. However, when faced with a right wing populist and con mens ala Doug Ford, that must take priority.

Seriously, centrists really need to start taking the rise in right wing populism as as existential threat to liberal democracy rather than just another electoral consideration.

i don't think doug ford is worse than the ndp. i think they are the same. they are both completely shit. one will cut taxes and spend, causing a structural deficit which will make things worse for future governments. the other will spend even more and raise taxes higher than they already are until the top income earners leave the country in droves, causing a structural deficit which will make things more difficult for future governments.

the most reasonable option of the three is wynne and her i'll spend like a tipsy saiior and stick you with a short-term deficit. but there's no reasonable chance that her party will get more than a dozen seats. she may even end up with none after giving up last week.

I don't really see the difference between them other than one supporting unions and making the government pay for all their pet projects versus the other being anti-union and making the government pay for all of their pet projects.

The Liberals don't really stand for anything and they are acting fiscally irresponsible so that we pay for their pet projects. I am okay with them not standing for anything. My big issue is paying extra for their pet projects so they can run a deficit. They might as well merge with the NDP and the Greens if they all want to share the same space on the electoral map.

There needs to be a decent fiscally conservative, socially liberal, middle of the road boring party that everyone can shake their heads at while realizing that they are the best option for the country.

Don’t think they do. When folks meet up at county fairs, they complain about hydro costs, governments being citified and not giving a crap about rural folk, but I don’t hear much Ford praise.

I like the local PC guy , he genuinely works for his community. He’ll get 65-70% of the vote. I figured that he doesn’t need me so so went NDP
So that Ford can hopefully know that he didn’t win the popular vote.

I don’t believe you, mcphee. I think there are aspects of the « modern world » that yer folks don’t like and they fall pray to the talk of populists that lead them to belive what they want to belive -that they can turn back time.

I don’t think the rise of right wing populism the world over is a funny coincidence. I think it’s a reactionary movement.

Part of the populist surge is probably a sense that "dem damn city folks elected a lesbian to order us all around!" (just like our neighbours to the south had a rather violent reaction to the fact that "dem damn city folks elected a black man to order us all around!") and part of it is the Liberals just making some lousy decisions over the last couple of years, especially related to overpaying for green energy but also the Ontario Hydro situation.

The benefits of cleaner air are probably overlooked by most people so it's a matter of "what have you done for/to me lately?".
