I wonder if Trudeau's sunny days will turn many of us into hardened cynics when things don't quite turn out as we hoped.

You mean like when the Liberals got a majority and Trudeau ended up as the Prime Minister?

I like what I've read about Stajan so far.

From a Canadian Vet - Finally, a minister of defense who actually knows something about the military. Highly decorated with 1 tour in Bosnia and 3 in Afgha.

A few more wars like this and we can churn out many qualified candidates in the future.

So much hoopla over this cabinet gender parity thing. It's a symbolic gesture, but I am not convinced it means very much in light of systemic problems. The social media is celebrating this like it's 'mission accomplished'.

Nice marketing. The question nobody is asking is what's the next step?

A well balanced cabinet orgy, one would assume.

You'd only need 75%-25% for that. :colbert:

I don't like a lot of proportional representation. I'd keep it to 10% or less. It tends to lead to narrow parties and the compromises occur between politicians in back rooms instead of publicly in the party platform before the election.

I'd go with Instant Runoff Voting for all the riding seats, and then have maybe 30 more seats assigned via proportional representation based on which parties got screwed the most in terms of percentage of seats versus percentage of first place votes. The Greens would probably get about 10 seats, and most of the rest would go to whoever finished third from among the big 3.

And I would pick the PR seats for each party from the losing riding candidates for that party in this election. Whoever got the highest percentage of first place votes would be at the top of their party's list, and so on.

I think that it's going to be ranked balloting because I imagine that the Liberals have done quite well in it in some god-awful LPC focus groups.
