@TSNBobMcKenzie: No trade yet between CBJ and EDM but it looks like Nikita Nikitin contract negotiations with EDM headed in the right direction.

OOOH yeah life goes on, long after the thrill of Vinny is gone

It's too bad all the people that could really run the Habs are busy doing talk radio, writing blogs or posting on message boards.

Now, Lajoie is an imbecile, a cretin and a plagiarist, who to use author Dany Laferrière's deliciously withering expression, "lives beyond his intellectual means."

...as serious as a poutine shortage in Chicoutimi during a curling bonspiel...

Chris Johnston @reporterchris · 12m

Nikita Nikitin becomes the #oilers highest-paid defenceman with that $9M, two-year deal.

Until Brooks Orpik gets a $30m/5 years.

Actually I think it's a pretty good deal in terms of using years to bring down the AAV. Gaborik is 32 so it becomes easy to deal with the post 35 years.

LA should just send a scout to the draft with a list. Maybe not even a scout. Give some kid a list and pick whatever name comes up next. Everyone can go on vacation. Fuck all to do.

That's a ballsy Gaborik move. Huge discount for what he's worth right now but if he goes really far south in the next 2-3 years, his and Richards' contract could slam the Kings contending window shut. As good as the Kings have been at drafting lately, nobody is good enough to constantly find gems picking 25th-30th.

I just don't see a long term need. 2 young offensive forwards who at 21 or 22,have excelled in big games. Some in their prime studs. Maybe you could argue that they have a #1 d man and 3 or 4 #3's ? Sure Gaborik could slump, and Richards won't get faster , but they look long term good

Maybe you could argue that they have a #1 d man and 3 or 4 #3's ? Sure Gaborik could slump, and Richards won't get faster , but they look long term good

I don't see Brown or Richards aging well. Gaborik has been fine when he's been healthy but he's proven to be made of glass the last few years. I see Carter and Kopitar being effective well for quite awhile. But my problem with the Kings approach is that it counts on the above mentioned not declining much, as well as Toffoli/Pearson/others being good but not good enough to warrant huge deals. I don't think either is all that likely.

It's been interesting to see the Kings and the Blackhawks take completely different approaches to keeping/not keeping players. The Kings kept mostly everybody from 2012 while the Hawks punted on a lot of their mid-tier talent after 2010. Both have relatively successful "rebuilds" to cup winning teams so I guess it's all about identifying who will age well.

I think the Hawks kind of got forced into a route, didn't Tallon fuck up on some 2nd level contracts ? I think a strength of LA is having players in roles that suit them. If LA decided they had an ideal 2nd C , the Leafs would drool over a big C, as would my beloved team, but he'd fail in a #1 slot. He's great in his role. Same with a bunch of guys on that team, they fit. I know, we can discuss projected longevity, and where they'll be in 3 years, but they're pretty impressive on paper for the next 3 or so. Health changes all that , but it does for everyone.

Apparently if the money is equal the tie will go to the Leafs in the Bolland 'sweepstakes'. Christ, someone offer him more $. I'm looking at you, Edmonton.
