Haven't been this embarrassed to be Canadian since February of 1998.

Craig wrote:So I'm not a big tennis fan, by any stretch. But I just read a little story about how there's a Canadian in the men's and women's junior finals this year at Wimbledon. It turns out there's this kid Filip Peliwo who has made three grand slam finals this year, so far having lost to the #1 and #2 players it Australia and France. He's up against the #1 again at Wimbledon. He's the #4 ranked player at the moment, but he's on a big upswing. He was ranked 34th at the end of 2011. On the womens side there's Eugenie Bouchard, who is ranked 2nd at the moment. It's her first grand slam final, but she's been near the top of the charts for a while now.

So the point is, Canada seems to have a pretty bright future in tennis, which is a total surprise to me. I predict pretending to give a shit at the 2016 or 2020 Olympics.

Does anyone actually know anything about tennis? Are these kids actually full of potential, or are they just the equivalent of overagers in the CHL?

I don't think I had answered that post in 2012, but here's what I should have posted if I had seen it:

Those kids have potential. Tennis Canada rebooted its Tennis programs for youth a couple of years ago. They've got great trainers and Raonic, Pospisil and Bouchard are the first to come out of that renewed program. And all I hear is that the relief is supposed to be even better.

I know all this from a coworker who was a Tennis trainer prior to coming work with us and he was very very implicated with Tennis Canada. I remember asking him about that 3 years ago.
Society is actually a bunch of flawed primates guided by selfishness, fear, and superstitious bullshit.

Women's tennis is unbearable; we need that little homo Peliwo to come of age.

I don't think we'll ever see a champion like Rafael Nadal at the French Open. To win nine titles at one grand slam is just beastly.

Nadal is a beast, but watching him play is agonizing. I don't know why so many athletes are superstitious. Plus he kills the pace of the game.
