Yeah, he seems really passionate about what he's talking about.

I like how he reconciled mainstream/corporate Hip Hop with the "underground", he didn't dismiss the mainstream, but he explained what the difference was. I think there is real talent in the mainstream however, and being underground doesn't make you necessarily more skilled because you're more about the art, but I can see how back then the discrepancy could be more obvious. It ties up with many reflections I've had on music for years.

A similar thing happened to other genres in music (Indie pop/rock, electronic music). Now more than ever the lines are blurred because streaming is the new meter of success, and like he said, everyone is on the same playing field. Of course Indie artists need to work harder to succeed, but it's certainly doable. But a negative effect it's having is that young hopefuls who wanna "make it" are less focused on mastering their craft and more focused on how far they can go.

Now you see mainstream acts trying to sound "indie" and indie acts becoming bigger than mainstream acts. But at the same time, when everybody is trying to be "different", they also end up sounding/looking the same because they don't truly deeply understand the art they're making.

It's like young baseball pitchers nowadays, they all throw 100mph+, but they have no control and can't pitch for more than 5 innings per game.

Yeah, he seems to have a grudge against how it all unfolded in the begging.. with corporate sharks (although they were themselves nobodies at that time) trying to profit from this new sound. In the end, the whole of society is suffering from over-financialization of everything there is.. even in the world of graffiti, half of the talented guys are making lawyer money for painting cheezy unoriginal murals because street art is trending, the other half is spending half of their measly earnings to buy cans and paint real graffiti in abandoned warehouses.. every sector is being monetized and thus loses a large part of it's heart and soul.

My boi shokey keeping it real

Tardez what's the difference between what you do and what Kaytra does..? I mean, do you ever try to remix some songs to your sauce?

btw I really liked that 80s sound you posted... have you been furthering into that?

Thanks man, that was just an attempt at emulating that sound since I've been listening to that lately, I just did it for fun.

I'm working on stuff and will release music before the end of the year. The plan is to have a solo project and everything will fall off of that, much like what he's doing. My vision with music has always been more artistic than business driven, so being a published writer in L.A. didn't make sense for me in the end. I still wanna do pop songs, but I wanna do it my way. The problem is that I love so many things and can do so many genres and styles that completely differ from each other that it's tough to just go in one direction, but I think I've found it the last few months.

I will make a dropbox soon so you can hear what I'm working on.

Ever since I was little I've been an indecisive fuck. I appeared on a TV show in Panama when I was like 4 and the host asked us questions about our favorite things and I changed my mind like 5 times. It was hilarious, the host almost had a meltdown.

I also think I'm going to work with artists from here. Some cool artists are emerging in the scene, it'd be cool if they could sonically compete with the big names in the english market.

I was thinking about that lately, I avoided those dudes like the plague growing up because I was all about the pretty chords and catchy stuff. I loved 90s r&b/pop all that type of stuff, but when I became a producer and I started meeting all my current friends, they were all the same. I never gotta hide of my liking of the chord progression and melodies in "Quit playing games with my heart", hell...I ended up meeting the guy who wrote that tune.

Le vin Géorgien c'est le next big thing.. on en a reçu 2 nouveaux, et y'en a une 10aine qui est en attente de rentrer cet hiver. Great stuff, super particulier..
