Agreed, though I wanted "more" out of it. Liked the Hershey's pitch scene but wasn't entirely buying it in the context of this very episode. I recognise there's only so much prepping for something like it to happen you can churn out and the very essence of such a psychological breakthrough is its suddenness.

Dialogue in a couple scenes (Don/Megan and Ted/Peggy in particular) wasn't up to snuff as far as I was concerned but I was a big fan of everything else. That final scene would have been a great way to end the series, even if the rest of the episode doesn't feel like a ending.

Will be interesting to see where they take Don from here.

I read something a few weeks back that I think sums up Mad Men fan theories pretty well. There's the 5% of people that watch the show and think stuff like this is possible/probable, and then there's the 95% who enjoy water cooler talking what the tin hat parade has come up with.

Oh, also loved the echoes of the opening and closing shots from the series' first episode with Peggy and Pete respectively.

Edit: Double-checked, I mis-remembered where the Peggy shot came from (it evokes the logo and the first episode starts with Don from a similar angle, but he's not in his office - either way, classic Don shot).

Yeah, the obvious Peggydon shot was obvious. In a good way.

I enjoyed it.

I don't think the writers have ever made a major misstep with Peggy, but I definitely enjoyed her Don 2.0 schtick at the beginning of the season more than her and Ted.

im thinking next season he tries to reconcile with Betty and get a little business started. Also maybe we finally see him on the psychologists couch.

Don't know if anyone else read it, but here's a section that blew my mind from Weiner's PR interview. (The interviewer is one of his staff writers).

INTERVIEWER

Will you describe how you write the show?

WEINER

At the beginning of the season I dictate a lot of notes about the stories I'm interested in. Then for each episode, we start with a group-written story, an outline. When I read the outline, I rarely get a sense of what the story is. It has to be told to me. Then I go into a room with an assistant and I dictate the scenes, the entire script, page by page.

INTERVIEWER

I've seen you do whole scenes without pausing.

WEINER

I can see it in my head. And I don't look at the dictation. I try and keep it in my head. That's why the fatigue gets so bad. And why it's crucial to have the right assistant. It requires chemistry, it requires them reading my mind a little bit so they know when I'm moving back to an earlier person who's talking or which person is saying it - because sometimes I stop identifying the speakers. After a while I'll talk in different voices. I don't even know what I'm doing when I walk around making up those scenes. But I wrote my play the same way, and my second movie, You Are Here. If you compose that way, it means the dialogue can all by said. John Slattery and I had an argument about something in the second episode, where there was a bit of a tongue twister. He was supposed to say, "Coop is going to want a carbon with your hand-picked team for Nixon on it. And I warn you right now, it includes Pete Campbell." He said it was impossible to say, but I knew it could be said because I'd said it. I rattled it right off to him. Then he smiled and performed it and everything I wrote for him. I started writing more tongue twisters for John. My favorite was, "He knows what that nut means to Utz and what Utz means to us."

Musical cues were a little on the nose last night - maybe that's a regular thing I just haven't noticed before - but it is so good to have this show back. AMC deserves the dearth of good programming it has lined up, with this silly half-season crap they keep pulling. Line of the night: "To the fear of an ambush." That or: "I guess I'm just immune to your charms."

Will be nice to check in on Betty and Sally and find out what dumb haircut Harry's sporting this season.
