One of my all time tops...

É pau, é pedra, é o fim do caminho
É um resto de toco, é um pouco sozinho
É um caco de vidro, é a vida, é o sol
É a noite, é a morte, é um laço, é o anzol
É peroba do campo, é o nó da madeira
Caingá, candeia, é o Matita Pereira

Love how the purtoulohl fellah is so purtuhees...

At first listen you're disgusted, but then wake up a crackhead and wonder what happened, something incredible about the sound... really anticipating the album.

I can barely understand what he says but it looks like he truly feels what he's saying and there's about 3 notes put together in those melodies that make total sense, lots of repetition. That's good enough for me.

Ok so basically they do mostly gangsta rap, but more like when a gangsta is about to kill someone and he cries about what he's about to do because that ain't the life he chose, but he also has a bunch of strippers and a mountain of cocaine in his mansion. Like Roi Heenok mixed with Drake. Also found out they don't do interviews and just release music and do concerts. They got that Daft Punk thing going for them.

Brilliant.

The most used DAW right now is Ableton Live, that's what I use. Ableton is currently the standard program when it comes to making beats in the business. There is a 30 day trial available. You get all the features for 30 days, which isn't really enough to learn and use it to its max capability (Unless you have a sick learning curve). But you'll be using the real thing. Tons of tutorials on youtube.

https://www.ableton.com/en/trial/

Fruity Loops is probably the second most used DAW in the game, there's a free version, but you can't reopen the projects that you can actually save, which is really stupid. Easiest to learn, fun to look at, tons of tutorials on youtube. It's the most "starter pack" program there is, but it's also good for more advanced stuff. Typical for making DANK trap beats.
:hillary:

Definitely recommend it, the only thing is not being able to save your projects.

Then there's Studio One Prime which is a free version of Studio One Pro. It's fairly similar to Ableton, but it doesn't have the time limit and it's free. So that's a good option. You get less sounds and effects than the real version, but it gives you enough to start. It's probably more difficult to learn than FruityLoops, but it gives you a tool to truly learn if that's your purpose.

Then there's Audacity which is a popular free DAW, but I suspect it's the music hipsters trying to make windows 95 cool again.

Fruity Loops is great for a beginner to mess around with. 9th Wonder produces all his beats off FL.

Yup, I began with that back in '05, then went to Logic and been on Ableton for about 6 years now. It had a bad rep for being a bit toyish back then and lacking in some areas, but they've truly improved it throughout the years. You make beats?

Yeah but I like to sample from horror movie OSTs, or any soundtrack that is worth its weight. Ill play around with synth for fun. I've actually sold a few beats years ago to a couple prominent skateboarders after I sampled the shit out of Friday the 13th Part 4 lol.

Nice, I've always been more about composition and sound design, but I've truly started to appreciate the art of sampling in hip hop the past few years. I was listening to a bunch of JDilla not long ago. I compose for a living, but I love to dig up samples and do stuff with it for fun too.

The environment is crazy. There are actually two other very good producers from my town and another one a few miles off. Lots of DJ's too in the general area. New York is flooded.

Yeah NY is flooded with musicians and DJs. I know many artists and producers in NY. There are so many good creative minds right now everywhere, I know here in Montreal I'm part of generation of electronic producers like Kaytranada, Billboard, Ruffsound, AC, High Klassified ect. They're all about the same age as I am and a bunch of us came up knowing each other. Toronto has the rappers and singers, but Montreal has definitely got the edge when it comes to production.
