Loving mostly the retro games like Final Fantasy IX and such. Played some ACIII, but it kinda left me feeling for some retro gaming.

Currently playing God of War Ascension on PS3.

All I can say so far, 1.5 hours in, is that I'm getting my GoW fix.

Will do eventually, but I'm no less than 1.5 years behind on games at any given time. Loved the first one, though I never bothered with 2 -- heard it was a little too familiar.

I have. It's a great game. Not groundbreaking in anyway, it's basically just Bioshock 1 but better. I wasn't a fan of the ending though. I won't spoil it but I don't think the logic for that final thing having to happen to you makes sense.

Is Bioshock worth playing?

I've heard it's great, atmospheric - I've also heard it's overrated - just a shooter.

I got really bored with Bioshock and didn't finish playing it. That almost never happens to me with shooters. But I know it was very well received at the time too, so I'm in a clear minority.

edit: The first one, that is. Since I didn't like the first one I never bothered with the rest.

Bioshock 1 is one of the last games that offered a demo on every platform it was on, so you can play that and get a feel for it.

It has an excellent story, but it's not a great work of philosophy or the video game equivalent of Citizen Kane that some people make it out to be. Also, if you are an Objectivist or neoconservative who likes to pretend they are an Objectivist, you'll hate the story. Game play wise, it's an average to above-average shooter. There is no cover or regenerating health and it plays a lot slower than COD/Battlefield or Halo. Enemies are fairly difficult to kill (especially Big Daddies) and ammo and whatever they call mana is limited, so it pays to plan your fights ahead of time. Oh and the final boss fight is terrible like something out of the late 90s.

Bioshock 1 - Awesome
Bioshock 2 - What the fuck?
Bioshock 3 - Holy fuck!

Definitely worth getting.

Bioshock is my favorite game this generation. Amazing atmosphere, fun gameplay, great story. Playing on hard can be a real challenge.

Honestly if you are comparing Bioshock to games like COD or Halo, you are doing it wrong. If anything it should be compared to games like Fallout and Skyrim in terms of gameplay (though without the big open world).

In terms of a story and atmosphere driven first person game with RPG elements, with lots of looting and magic/perks/plasmids/vigors.

But sure if you still think its more comparable to COD/BF/Halo then feel free.... :bettman: No wonder you were disappointed with the game if you were treating it as a generic FPS

It was pretty linear, or at least the third or so of it I managed to play through was. Far from an immersive RPG like Fallout or Skyrim. It was more like an updated version of where FPS games had been going for a decade before online multiplayer killed the plots. System Shock 2 and Deus Ex spring to mind as the standouts of that style of game, but there are countless others.

Bioshock is the spiritual successor to System Shock. Strange that you didnt enjoy it if you like SS2. Ken Levine made both games

If you ever give it another go, try it on Hard (with vita chambers turned off if you want as well). The extra challenge enriches the survival atmosphere by increasing the need for scavenging for ammo/health/etc. Almost makes it more in the mold of surival horror

On Infinite: I am only about 5 hours in, but so far its great. Cool setting and story, fun weapons/vigors. My only issue with it is how 'Murica involved the story is, but oh well.

I'm pretty sure I did play it on hard. I didn't find it particularly challenging, just boring. A lot of running and evading and picking away at the big bad guys.

I don't particularly like survival horrors either. Dead Space was another game I just couldn't get into.

I started playing Bioshock anyway.

It's early, but I find it interesting.

The mood and the setting I find enjoyable.

Currently waiting for Steam to put both Bioshock 1 and 2 on sale. Bought 2 on the PS3 and while it looked like a game I could love, I just feel that shooters are games more enjoyable on PC.

It was recommended to me by a coworker, but they told me "no no, it's not a shooter".

Obviously, that person doesn't have a clue about most things gaming.

Deus Ex Human Revolution would be the best comparable.

Yeah, it is fairly consistent with that type of game.

There is some variation in development of your character and alternate playstyles, but access to areas is strictly controlled and largely plot-driven.

To me it's more like a Fallout/Gears type. I loved the first one and even though the 2nd one wasn't as good, I still played it, wasn't a fan of the multiplayer aspect of it but the game was alright. The third is amazing so far.

Yeah the 2nd one was made by a different dev team for a quick sequel, while Ken Levine and his team were working on Infinite this whole time. Bioshock 2 is still worth playing if you love the world of Bioshock 1, plus playing as a Big Daddy is awesome

Well... I'm not one to pay 60$ for a game either. Aside exceptions, of course (ie Mass Effect, God of Wars)

Not a big gamer, but loved the original Bioshock. Finished Infinite yesterday. Just a whole lot of fun. First game the girlfriend's ever played more than an hour of and she ended up beating me to the finish.
