THE LAND DOWN UNDER

Post #1 by PredsFan77 » Wed Feb 24, 2016 10:42 pm

OK I got a week next month traveling to Sydney. How many days do I need to cover there? What should I do on the left over days? Melbourne? Auckland?

i think part of what makes nz one of the best countries in the world is the fact that herr doktor chimera thinks it is horrible and will likely never go there.

American starts flying to NZ in the summer so can always explore more in depth next time. Can get a flight to Auckland for ~$300. Worth it over Melbourne? Or somewhere else?

This whole idea that we are even important is a fucking illusion. We’re just an accident left to our own devices.

if you had gone to nz, you'd have been there for the historic vote in which new zealanders decided to not do anything at all about their flag, which no one cared about in the first place.

It's as far as to the other side of the world that you can get from here without being in the middle of the indian ocean. Plus it's supposed to be pretty nice. It made it in the NYT's 52 places to travel this year:

A decade-long development boom has supercharged Perth, a city long best known for its isolation on Australia’s western coast. Among the new attractions: Yagan Square, in a crook of highway near the central business district, with its distinctive market hall, art park and 147-foot digital tower with a 46-foot-high circular screen that showcases work by local artists and live-streams events like Aussie rules Football and the Melbourne Cup; Optus Stadium, a 60,000-seat venue for concerts and sporting events, including cricket; and Raine Square, a $200 million redevelopment in the business district that includes a movie theater, shopping and restaurants including Hong Kong-based dim sum chain Tim Ho Wan, widely considered the world’s most affordable Michelin-starred restaurant. To accommodate the expected growth in tourism, 31 new or redeveloped hotels have opened in the last five years, including the luxury COMO, the hip QT and a Westin. Since 2007, liquor law reforms, including a 2018 change that let restaurants serve drinks without a meal, have changed the drinking and dining scene with more than 100 small bars opening in the central business district alone. And Qantas started a nonstop flight from London to Perth this year, the first from Europe.
