Has there been an issue with supply? Why the price hike?

Apparently Rye got all trendy all of a sudden and there was very little supply for aged ryes. So anything on the market is very young in comparison. Just have one of those aged ryes from the buffalo trace antique collection. Have another 2 of those from 2012. Then have 3 Four roses limited editions that are also quoting prices for ~$850. Mind boggling. I thought I was out of my mind for paying $80 per back in the day....now 10xs that?!?!

They're all unopened? I buy liquor then drink said liquor. I'm the only thing that ages in my house.

Me my house and my car. Everything else is young and spritely and good for immediate use. That includes Mrs. AD.

I bought myself the new Island Green blend from JW. I'm not usually a blend guy but I've grown to appreciate them after spending a lot of time in Japan. This blend is mostly Caol Ila and Cardhu. Both of which I like.

It's supposed to mimic a good Islay and I believe they have something.

The blends have been getting a lot of love in the last few years. My cousin and her husband went to Scotland earlier in 2016 and, both being scotch fans, they went to visit a distillery (can't for the love of me remember which one). They had blind taste tests and blends were scoring on par with single malts (it's also apparently a custom to use a pipette to drop 3 to 7 drops of water in the scotch to have its taste "open" a bit - just like you put wine in a carafe).

I expect most blends will eventually get there.

Blends were all the rage back in the day. The comeback is here.

That said, there's always something subdued about a blend. Something like it's holding back in an attempt to please instead of allowing itself to shine.

The world is yours. The other way around is actually harder (I.e. Guests who like to chew on burnt tree bark)

The classic large producers are good for what you're looking for. Oban. Aberlour. Glenlivet. Glenmorangie. Dalwhinnie.

Oban 14 being my favourite of those. Very well rounded scotch.
Aberlour 16 too. Real good especially the profound deep red sweetness of the older bottles of that distillerie.

So, this little exchange made me think "yeah maybe a glass would be nice". I reach for the Hibiki in the cabinet and of course knock over a bottle of port that shatters on the floor. Just spent the last half hour mopping and picking up broken bottle fragments.

I hate you so much, banana.
