This sounds do-able. I'm staying in Ginza, so isn't too far from Tokyo Station.

Also, fish market is first thing on the list on the first full day there. Suggestions are to do the first day as you are jet lagged as fuck and you can enjoy a nice breakfast at the market

In terms of Tokyo sites.

Sensoji temple in Asakusa. The Meji Shrine in Shibuya. Museums which are mostly in Ueno park.

Woke up at 1:45 am and somehow my NFL mobile app worked so I could watch redzone on my phone. Nice job by my titans letting johnny football look like a stud. It's a holiday today so I've been reduced to eating breakfast at a McDonald's. Every single damn time I swear I end up at a McDonald's when traveling abroad.

I didn't try that one, but I went to a few of the places on Ramen Street. The beef tongue ramen at "Kizo" was my favorite.

Eat a lot and eat everything. I don't think I had a bad meal in Japan. The Kobe beef I had in Osaka was one of the best things I have ever eaten.

Shopping at a "Depachika" and getting an awesome bento box was also a great experience. Just admiring the selection and presentation was something else.

Go to some temples in Kyoto. The walk up to Kiyomizu-dera was fun. Also go walk around Pontocho at night and find somewhere to eat and drink.

Walked by the place at the train station and the line was ridiculous. Didn't go. Made it to Ippudo in Ginza. Made it to the fish auction (2:45 am wake up was not fun). Really liked Kyoto. Hiroshima was awkward. The JR rail pass is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

How was the fish auction? We got up early but missed getting tickets by about 1/2 hour. :(

Pretty cool. Had to wait 2.5 hours before we got to go in and view for a 25 minute period. Might be better once they moved to their new space next year.

No that you're serious, but I don't think climbing Fuji is permitted in the Winter. On a clear day you can pretty much see it from any 30 plus story building in Tokyo that has an unimpeded Westward view.

Also on the weekends and holidays the narita express runs from Narita airport to the Mt. Fuji station. Otherwise you got to switch trains and buy another ticket.

2 week holiday in Japan with wife and (will then be) 6 year old daughter this summer. How's this for a rough itinerary:

Tokyo: 6 days (day trips to climb mt fuji (will go alone for that) and Nikko);

Kyoto: 5 days (with day trip to Nara)

Miyajima: thinking of booking a ryokan for 2 nights here -would appreciate some ryokan recommendations (anywhere -will travel for nice ryokan)

Maybe a day in Osaka as day trip from Kyoto.

Thoughts? Missing something major?

There isn't much to Miyajima, could cover it pretty fully in a day. (Maybe you are spending one of those days in Hiroshima?) Probably could take a day or two from Tokyo and Kyoto and go elsewhere.

Kid travels really well. Miyajima is meant as a nice ryokan relaxing retreat. Looking for a good place to spend a few days in spa like / nature surrounded ryokan.

Hiroshima will be hard to explain to a 6 year old. May have walk around town but will skip museum and other graphic bomb related stuff (don't feel like explaining the concept of war and the fact that people dropped a bomb that destroyed a whole city quite just yet).

Alps worth it? Theoretically could cut out a few days here and there and do Tokyo-Alps-Kyoto if it's worth it (didn't think it was on a first trip from what I've seen). Don't want too hurried a pace. I'm getting old. :)
